s&w model 66 no dash

Just traded for one today in great shape, (does show a little of age) my understanding is the no dash was introduced in the 70s? Id like to hear from a fellow calgunner(s) who own one and their thoughts. Also what is a general value on one? I cant post pics from my phone but can send them to someone to ypost for me. The Model 66 (No dash) was introduced in 1970 and produced until the -1 started in 1977.

Barrel length? Also, does it have the all stainless sights, front and rear? Original stocks/grips? Original box, paperwork, tools? This will help with valuation.

I have a 66 no dash. Mine was made in 1976, so it is a later one with the blackened sights. The Model 66 is basically a stainless Model 19 and was introduced in 1970. The early version had stainless sights front and rear.

Early on, S&W was getting complaints that the rear sights were hard to see in bright daylight, so they were changed by blackening the stainless. While the sight was changed, the model number remained the same until 1977 when they moved the forcing cone from the yoke to the cylinder and it became the 66-1.

It was introduced with a 4" barrel with the 2 1/2" being offered in 1974. 6" barrels became a catalog item in 1978, previously they had only been available as a special order.

Model 66's have become very desirable Smiths and they are rapidly appreciating in value.

The gun is a classic, although I didn't fully appreciate it at the time. It was only my 4th or 5th S&W, and I remember being surprised that a half-dozen Calgunners dogpiled the WTS ad right after I posted "I'll take it". That is, of course, one clue...

Compared to the fine modern stainless guns that S&W produces, of which I own a few, you can still grok the amount of "touch labor" that went into these early stainless guns.

Sorry late reply, it has no box or paperwork, has blued rear sight and red ramp front sight... ill have to grab the paper with the serial to post the first few of it
