    Kimber Warrior sighting

    Hey all,

I was at Costa Mesa today and saw a Kimber Warrior (pretty sure it was not a Warrior II, but I could be mistaken) for sale on one of the tables. The table looked like it was a dealer table and not someone doing a PPT. Am I missing something? I thought the Warrior was a no-go in Cali? I had my two year old with me and didn't get a chance to ask the guys about it. Did anyone else find out the story on it? If I remember, they wanted a round $1100 for it. Peace!

AFAIK, the Warrior and Warrior II look identical. The II just has the Kimber Series II firing-pin safety.

What is the reason again why kimber doesn't submit the warrior, and especially the desert warrior for CA approval? I would love to have a desert warrior...all I can figure is that the free state version is without a lock, and they don't want to mess with it further?

Good question. There are several 1911 makers who pass the CA tests without a FPS.

That's right. Some people might think that Warrior II = external extractor, but it's not, it's actually just the FPS as you noted.

Springfield 1911's don't have a FPS, but they have a smaller lighter (non-standard) firing pin which helps them pass drop tests b/c the firing pin is too light (not enough inertia) to strike a primer hard enough to set it off. You can't use standard 1911 .45acp size firing pins in the Springfields (the firing pin hole in the slide is smaller too).

So it still passes with out using a firing in safety.

Turners has Warrior II in stock now for over a grand. Just my opinion, but i think the TLE/RL is a nicer pistol for around the same price. TLE has a full length guide rod and nice frontstrap checkering. I do like the Warrior's finish and sights, but I dont care for the grips. Not the color, the just feel too slippery. Lanyard loop is a nice touch too. With either TLE or Warrior, you wont be ill equipped provided you break them in first.

When the Warrior first came out I emailed Kimber to ask if they would submit it for testing in California, and they're reply was that they had no plans to sell them here, cause it wouldnt pass the drop test. I suggested that maybe they could use lighter firing pins, or a heavier F.P spring, like Wilson does on their Kali-bound pistols, and never got a response.
