Slide locking last shot.

Hey guys.

So the last two times I've been to the range I've noticed that my Sig P228's slide locks on the last shot. I didn't take note on wether it was the magazine or the gun.=T But I think it might be the magazine. I've had the Sig for a while and this has never happened before. What can I do to fix this?

If it is actually locking back after the last shot has been fired and the magazine is empty then it is doing exactly what the designers, engineers and manufacturer intended it to do. It seems it is working properly.

it doesn't chamber the last round and locks the slide back? that just sounds weird. faulty mag? (i'm assuming that's what he means...if not then...ummm...yea)

Whoops sorry! I meant the slide locks after the 9th shot. Meaning 1 cartridge in the magazine, empty chamber, and slide locked back.

I retract my apology. I originally stayed that the slide locks ON the last shot. Not AFTER.

You still need to apologize. You think it's locking on the round, not the "shot." A shot means the round has been fired.

If the slide is locking back prematurely it means that the bullet ogive is hitting the slide stop tab. Are there copper marks on the slide stop tab?

BTW, it isn't uncommon on Sigs to find that the shooter is inadvertently nudging the slide stop up with the strong hand thumb since the slide stop is far back on the gun.

i had that happen to my sig 226 with after market mags i think the followers were wrong i took a little snap blade knife and took off about 1/8 and they worked but i sold them at a gunshow

and stick with factory mags

I'll have to check that tab as soon as I get home.

Thanks for the tip on the thumb influencing the slide stop.You bring up a good point.But I don't think it's the case because I haven't changed my shooting grip, and this hasn't happened before.It happens to my range buddy too. Also it's always happening on the tenth shot. I will pay attention to it next time I shoot the 228.
