    PPQ M1 range report

Picked up my PPQ (9mm,) yesterday, and went to the Fieldtime target and training today.

Pistol had no failures over 150 rounds, which included American Eagle 115, Freedom Munitions 124 grain RNN (round nose new,) and some Fireldtime remans. I have to say I am not a great shooter, so started with my M&P's to warm up, and then concentrated on the PPQ. I'm still learning striker fired pistols as I came from owning a HK USP 45 that I still love.
Trigger is awesome, but so light I understand how people can have unintended double taps... It may be 5.5 pounds as claimed by the factory but it sure doesn't feel that heavy. Reset is so short I'm going to have to PRACTICE a lot if this is going to be my main HD pistol. I bought it because it has the ambi mag release and my wife is a lefty. I wanted a true ambi pistol for home defense and didn't want a USP 9, or the VP9 after trying it.
I switched out the backstrap to the medium (had put large in before leaving for the range,) and it was a catastrophe. I immediately put the large insert back in. I have to have my wife try it out and see which backstrap insert she likes, and then see if I can live with it. So far, I'm really liking this pistol.
here is a link to the targets. note, the orange and green circles are 4"ers.

Once you get used to that gun it is great. For me under 3 inch groups off hand at 25 yards

Was going to get one but decided on the P99. Both great guns.

A few promising groups there. Great gun, thanks for the range report.

Yep, for HD, the P99 might be better with the DA first shot capability. I keep going back and forth for my last SSE of the year, and the P99 will probably be it, especially since I've already owned one. PPQ and P99 have the SAME trigger pull and reset in SA.... and the P99 still has the decocker to drop you back from SA to DA. No doubt that the PPQ is a great shooter, but the P99 is just way more versatile.

Why is the p99 more versatile? Because of DA mode due to poor trigger discipline?

Yes... DA, SA, second strike capability, decocker, re-clock with 1/4" rack of slide. PPQ is pure dummy proof SA (I don't mean that in a safety/discipline way), but personally I like the options of P99. How is your "trigger discipline" under extreme duress?? Probably not the same as in the lane at the range.

I might just have to pick a 99 up. Thanks for the info.

Just wait until you get used to the reset and try your hand at some faster shooting on steel. It's an absolute dream!

I too juggled with the medium and large backstraps. I can't thoroughly grip the gun without the large. I also added a Talon rubberized grip, which I also highly recommend.

                      lol... a good point though.

if you train enough it should become second nature to keep that finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire/identified a threat.

I picked up my M2 last week. After shooting my DA/SA Sig, GP100, and my M&Ps, I was quite surprised how light the PPQ trigger felt. (A good thing). After a box of 124gr Freedom Munitions reloads, I switched to my M&P Compact. Felt like DA on my Ruger.
