    Night Sight Decision

I couldn't find a thread regarding this question, so forgive the question.

I'm deciding between Meprolights and Trijicon. I've heard they're both excellent sights.

    I'm just looking for opinions.

    Thanks.
    Thank You,

Don't forget TruGlo.. their TFO's are awesome.

I also run several pairs of Meprolights. Very affordable and shine sooo bright right out of the darkest black gun safe. Cannot go wrong with Mepro IMHO.

here is a pair of TFO

I will see if I have a Mepro photo online and post it.

      What He Said!

I agree with "glock_this". I have Meprolight night sights on all of my handguns that Meprolight makes a sight for. And I have bought a set of Ameriglo TFO sights for the Glock 42 that I have on order right now. I have a real hard time seeing the standard Trijicon front blade during daylight, even though they shine just as bright as any other night sight at night. Being able to see a good sight picture during the day is very important to me, so the big white area around the tritium insert was the way to go for me, and the Meprolight sights fit that bill to a "T".

Might find a bit of info in the SIGHTS forum.

Here's one from just the other day in this forum too though:

Glock factory sights leave a bit to be desired so if anyone is looking to upgrade here are some good choices.

Left to Right: Trijicon HD Sight, TRUGLO Tritium/Fiber Optic Sights, TRUGLO Tritium Night Sight, Glock Factory Plastic Sights.

+1 for Meprolight. I've got them on my G19 and Shield 9mm. I would have put them on my G42 but they don't make them for that gun.

I also like Meprolight tru-dot, green front, orange rear. If you can wait, Dvor runs sales on theses for about $55-57 a pair.

I've had experience with Meprolight and Trijicon among others. Both company's tritium sights are well-made and high-quality and in terms of brightness I haven't noticed one being better than the other. I've also used TruGlo fiber optic/tritium combo sights but haven't had as much success there. Had the front sight tritium lamp fail after several hundred rounds of firing but they were pretty good about fixing it.

My favorite defensive handgun sight system is without a doubt the Trijicon HD series (I like orange over amber). I haven't seen any sights that are so well-thought-out and effective for a defensive gun.

                    Everyone has their preferences.

                      Scott,

I read multiple reviews where the orange Meprolight isn't really bright at night, in oppose to the green Meprolight at night.

Can you attest to that claim?

i've read that they are less bright than the green but thats actually strategic so that target acquisition is quicker since the front dot is green.

Yes, I can say that is true and one of the reasons I like them, makes the front sight stand out during target acquisition.

I guess my question is, why do you want them?
                              Different schools of thought.
Why would you shoot something you can't see? If you can't see your target, sight picture is a non issue.
If bad guys are behind you in pitch dark, they can see your position.
In most HD scenarios it's up close and personal, point and shoot instinctively.
I can't see worth a darn without my glasses. That's really a scary one. How will you ID your target?
                              On and on----
That said, my old Springfield 1911 has tritium sights that are still glowing lightly after 20+ years. Just perfect for me now. I won't replace with tritium.
My carry gun has them because they came with the gun used. I actually like the new Gen4 Glock sight picture better that my Glock tritium sights.
