I think that's how most people start. Just getting one for the home or the maybe I'll just tryi it out mentality is what breaks the surface. It is more available to the Filipino population (in the Philippines) nowadays but the process to acquire a firearm in the PI is designed mostly for the wealthy. Unless you're in the military or the police, the requirements and process needed to own and carry a firearm isn't as "buyer friendly" for the average joe in the PI as it is here for the everyday working man here in the US.

I know what you mean about that .45, my grandfather served in the US army w/ a 1911, my dad served this country in the USN with it, and now hopefully I can carry it w/ me in the LE agency I finally decide to apply for. I can't wait until my Loaded 1911 arrives next week, than I can start that drasted DROS.

Getting back on topic, You may find a SP-01 on guns america or your local dealer can order one for you (expect a mark up however). I still hold strong on my recommendation for the SA XD9. The SA warranty and customer service is second to none. The 1911 I'm acquiring did not come w/ the ILS key nor did it include an instruction manual. One call to SA and they mailed the key and manual free of charge.

Not really, the Phil is classified into 3 categories: poor, average and rich. The average Juan can afford to buy FAs and go thru the process required to get one. Those who are the rich pays extra for non-appearance to get a FA. Process requires that the applicant go to Federal and Explosive Division and have his picture taken, finger printed and attend Gun Safety Seminar. And also part of the requirement is to have a drug test, take neuro exam and go to your local PD and have a certificate that you are a peace loving individual. All those for a fee. Total fee costs about $50-60 and extra for non-appearance is $100.

Yeah, last time I heard it was really difficult to get a FA in the motherland My dad nowadays just carries a beretta 92FS and a knock-off .45 from Cebu, although the knock-off gun was prettier and hella sweet ( "hella" )

We had a S&W "paltik" back home. It was as heavy as a brick but shot like it was supposed to. It wasn't our main means of protection, the Colt 80s series and Charter Arms Off-Duty took care of that.

Both guns are decent choices. I prefer the XD because of the trigger. I just don't like the DA on the P01/CZ75. Basically it comes down to what feels better in your hand and what you like more.

As most will tell you, a handgun that fits one person like a glove and is able to shoot HELLA tight groups, is another's POS. It's all just a personal preference.

Both are great guns. If there's one knock against the CZ it's that CZs don't have much slide to grip on to. The XD, being polymer and lighter, will probably give you more recoil than the CZ.

Well I'm off to shop around my area, I was quoted $509 for an XD-9 at Bullseye in San Rafael original price was $529.... I know I said I'm leaning towards the CZ... but I rented the XD9 again and I really like how it feels in my hand... fits like a glove... I might haggle a bit lower with the XD co'z I'm planning on purchasing a rifle too ..maybe they can give me a discount

I'd look online for a XD. I picked mine up for $390 (new) and with the right FFL you can pick one up for well under $500. Try guns america.

Another complaint some people have with CZs is that the trigger reach is longer than most in double action. People with small hands can have trouble getting onto the trigger.

You live in the bay area asintado?

Are there any good FFL in the area? That's a great price if I can get a hold of one. I'll try searching gunsamerica.

                        Bought an XD today!!!

I'm stoked right this moment (although you can't really see it, I'm drooling)

Just bought the XD9 Tactical...thought I was going to like the 4 inch, they didn't have it in stock...so I bit the bullet so to speak and bought the tactical.....I also had the chance to shoot it today (they have a range), guess what???

I LOVE THE TACTICAL EVEN BETTER!!! (whew...)

It's a joy to shoot and recoil is so soft (perfect for my fiancee') the longer slide really helps with the balance of the gun. As far as the trigger I'm content with it..

Anyway, that's it for that...now unto my next purchase a .308 rifle....

Thank you to all those that gave their advice and opinions about the XD....

                        can't wait....
