    Confused nOOb ????

Hi all, been a lurker for a while now and finally registered to be a member. First off I'm pretty much a newbie in regards to purchasing firearms....first thing that I bought was a Mossy 500A ...and now I'm contemplating on buying my first handgun...primarily for range shooting and all that good stuff..

I really like a 9mm (cheap) would probably buy a .22 (cheapahhh) after that for my fiancee'..but now the hard part....I'm down to 2 guns that I really like, I will only get one (hopefully) so I need some advice as to which one is good or you think I should go for....from these I can probably get a much varied look on what you guys think.

Springfield XD9 (rented one, and really liked it)
    CZ-75 P01 (no clue)

I'm no stranger to guns though, I've been around guns since I was a kid back in the philippines...so really right now I'm just about to run off to either Bullseye in San Rafael or Traders (what do you think about this store?)

    Need help

    thanks!

As has been posted before: Try (as many as possible), before you buy. What fits one person may not necessarily fit another (grip size, grip angle etc.).

If you look around you may be able to find a used Ruger or Llama 9mm for about $200.

I don't consider the XD to be cheap. You can probably get a used Glock for a little less than a new XD. For $100-$200 more you can get a used Sig or a Beretta.

I'd go w/ the XD9 if I were you. It's reliable, easy to disassemble and cheap (to a degree). The CZ comes apart kinda like a 1911 and can be complicated for someone who hasn't been around guns much. I have an XD9 and I absolutely love it. You can remove the slide for easy cleaning w/ the flick of a lever. There's nothing wrong w/ the CZ, I actually want to get a 75b eventually but as a first time owner the XD9 would suit you well.

I have both the P01 and the XD9, they are both great guns. Can't go wrong with either. Rent them both, decide which feel you like better and which control layout works best for you.

Why is it that your kind are so much into guns?

                Hey wait, I'm one too.
What kind of FAs have you shoot before? I'm sure mostly 1911s.
                You already have good advices.

Yea, we grow everywhere.....I guess its in the blood. For some reason we're all attracted to handguns, the majority at least. I shot my first gun at 10 yrs old.

You don't seem to be making noob choices, though. XD9 and czPO-1 both wonderfull guns.

I am, personally, cz guy. I think the only thing that XD has on cz is the warranty.... That's it.

The essence of Western civilization is the Magna Carta, not the Magna Mac. The fact that non-Westerners may bite into the later has no implications for their accepting the former.

EDIT 2020: To be fair that seems to apply to many Westerners also.

There's also PO-1's big brother - the SP-01. Same ergonomics, but in a recoil eating bigger and heavier package. And CA approved, baby!!!!

Yeah, I'm also looking into that gun, any stores in the bay area that sells the SP-01? I haven't been shopping around that much...but I am leaning into getting a CZ.

A warranty can go a long way... BUT shoot em both and see which one YOU like...

I've often pondered this issue... perhaps it IS in the blood.

Going back in P.I. history, occupations by the Spanish, U.S. and Japan often involved restricting the locals access to firearms or disarming completely, even if for a time...

More recent history under Marcos brought Martial Law where only the government (and the rich/privileged) had access to firearms.

While it's better now... I understand it's no cake walk there to get a hold of quality pieces - but at least there's access.

Perhaps we (generations later) somehow place a value on what many of our countrymen before us had ripped from them... maybe down deep inside our heads we know to embrace and celebrate what it means to be an American. That being ABLE to be "into" firearms represents a FRAGILE right... one that we shouldn't forget could be taken away (or in the case of California, eroded away).

Maybe that's why many Filipino's I know are "into" firearms...

Awww hell... truth is we're just as enamored with the sound of a 1911 slide racking as Brass Balls is... I know the 1st time I dropped the slide release on a live round of 45ACP in my Dad's Colt Gold Cup, I was hooked.

Both pieces you mention are quality... for your 1st one, I'd shy away from a used piece unless it's from a trusted/known source - would hate for your 1st one to give you problems. Kinda like buying a new car for the 1st time... but after a time and you're more knowledgeable/comfortable, buying used will prove to be just fine.

btw... I think we all started thinking we'd "just get one"... look at us now...
