I'm looking at HK45's also and had some of the same questions. Found a couple answers at the Crossroads show on Saturday:

    1. I'm pretty sure Gun Effects in Industry had an HK 45 compact at the show, not sure if it's what you're looking for but you might check them out.

    2. 2A Zone from Rancho Cucamonga had a HK 45 Tactical in Tan (nice) and the threaded barrel portion was machined blank. Looked like a silver stripe or band. So they may have an easy solution for you.

    3. OC Firearms indicated they can have a gunsmith lop off the threaded portion but I wasn't keen on that.. so no idea the cost.

    Good Luck!

LEM's trickier to find. I paid $1099 OTD for mine. I'll just convert it down the line.

Does it have to be new? Currently, there are good deals on Gunbroker. Subracting mags and accessories that came with it, I got a used hk45c for around $580 not including conversion and transfer. Seems like everyone is going after the VP9, so plenty of used HK45/45c/P30 available for less.

You could also maybe try permanently attaching a thread protector onto the end of the threaded barrel. Of course, that would mean you can't remove the barrel from the slide without destroying the barrel, though.

If you want the CT, just buy a spare HK factory CT barrel and have the threads turned down and use that. The barrel that comes with the gun is serialed to the pistol so I would not want to turn the threads on that one as you will kill resale value.

You can get the barrel on GB or hkparts.net

Turning the threads and refinish (nitride) at investmentgradefirearms.com

Or just buy a C barrel and use that on the CT

What's the process you have to go through to own one? Can the FFL receive the handgun without the threaded barrel installed and start the SSE and then I pick up the slide and frame and install the non threaded barrel myself?

Is there any other way that doesn't involve grinding down the threads? I have no problem buying a non threaded barrel.

                      Thanks!
1.) check with Mike @ OC Armory www.ocarmory.com I've seen him stock HK45 full size, if he doesn't have it in stock, I'd go with Audiophil2 & have him ship it to Mike at OC Armory, he'll SSE it for you.

2.) Mike can NOT SSE a gun without the barrel, you can have the seller send you the threaded barrel, just don't ever install it in CA, but you'll have to find a "regular" barrel for the SSE/DROS.

                        Buy a spare barrel.

                        1. either buy a threaded barrel and have the threads turned down (Don't turn down the original barrel, as it would have the same serial # as the frame...)

                        2. or what i did was just purchase a HK45C barrel on HKparts.net

Keep the threaded barrel for out of state use.

It's nice to have a non-modified barrel with matching serial numbers, and have a backup non-threaded (or turned down threaded barrel) for CA use.

For threaded barrel version, you'll have to use a middle-man (out of state). have it sent to Table Rock Arms in Oregon. he'll do the SSE for you too. then have it sent to an FFL who will receive SSE transfers. If you're in the Bay Area, you can use Rob Blank in Milpitas or i believe Digital INstincts would accept it. i think Rob may be a bit cheaper if you're just doing a transfer...not sure on this.

I got my HK45 and HK45C with Mike at OC Armory - they did not have them in stock at the time, but were able to special order them. They're prices were the best I've seen.

Audiophil is a fantastic option too - great selection and also good prices. I highly recommend him if you cannot find local and have to SSE/transfer. He's sending a purchase of mine to Mike at OC Armory.

                          BONUS ROUND:

If you get the HK45C, you can get a free TLR-3 light from HKUSA - go to the HKUSA website, d/l the coupon, and in about 3 weeks you'll have a free light to go on your 45C! *The 45CT is not listed as valid for the free light. Just checked. Good until 9/30

Sorry to bring this thread back up. Figured it would be better to post in this thread instead of starting anew one.

If we were to get a HK45cT and get a spare threaded barrel. Would it be legal to get a barrel cap and have it welded on? Or does it have to be turned down?

                            Thanks

I just looked at my HK45 fullsize and if you capped the barrel it wouldn't be able to be placed or removed from the slide.
