    Just kidding.

Yes, it's that simple. Even an AR pistol with 7.5" barrel will meet the requirements for barrel length and overall length so you just need to block the magazine well so it can only accept one bullet. I've seen many examples of how to do this. Plastic block, blocked mag, piece of wood, single round sled, etc. I personally used a delrin block made to lock into the magwell. I had bought it from EBR, but he doesn't have them listed on his site anymore. I chose to register it so it is clear that it was built in 2013.
Ok, perhaps I will register mine also and keep it single shot until the registration is completed.

the law just says that you can't make an unsafe handgun, but then exempts SSE. it does not say that you must document SSE in any particular manner. there is no "form" to fill out from CADOJ or your local dealer. if you want to take a pic to CYA, you may. it might help you or hurt you, we don't know.

the bottom line is that it is the majority opinion (and it is all opinion, we aren't lawyers and do not have case law to point to) on how to stay legal is that you have to initially build any handgun in CA in an SSE/SAE configuration. Once that has happened, most of us feel that you can legally and safely modify (not manufacture) that handgun into any other configuration that you wish (provided you don't create an NFA or otherwise illegal firearm).
Ok, I guess that is why i am getting the "you dont need to do anything" answers from FFL's, because the end result is the same. I understand, it must be done in the correct order regardless of the end result. Thanks for clarifying.
