sometimes 'just because' is reason enough. but if you scratch that itch, know that whatever it is that made you itch is now yours… happily or regrettably. i've long wanted an early Seecamp (not california edition) for no reason other than just because.

              Agreed

I have the .44 DE and the .45 baby eagle and the baby eagle is way more practical, although no where near as impressive

This thread renewed my interest in the gun and I see on the Wikipedia page that the United States Army has used this gun? Is this true?

I think the engineers use regular hammers and the rest of the military uses regular dumbbells for workout, but I might be wrong...

I can't think of any reason other than "just because" to buy one, but the truth is once I started buying nice guns it got harder to find ones that I really want to buy. I have the practical handguns covered, been itching for a 44 for a while, (327PD) but I'm thinking why not DE?

I take my 44 magnum Desert Eagle just about every time I go out shooting in the desert. Everyone wants to try it since they've seen them in the movies. Since I polished the feed ramp I really haven't had any reliability issues. It used to not like hollow points. I can hit a dinner plate size target at 50 yards with it 50% of the time, which I think is pretty good.

I had a DE 44 some time back, till UPS "lost" it in shipment.

It was an early one. It shot so smooth, fed well, and was tack driver accurate on 100m steel shooting offhand.

three of us had them; all three(3 44m, one 50ae) all shot well. They were much more than safe queen show off guns. But, while everyone else was on the 5-15 yard ranges, we shot 50 yard, 100 yard, or 100m.

I paid bills with insurance money when UPS lost mine; still miss it.

I had an early 357 that mirrored these results, the only issue I had was learning what load would cycle the action. Moron that I am I sold it.

You have to keep the DE in perspective. Yes, it can be seen as a novelty gun, but it has a lot of thought that went into the design. The newer MK XIX's are very reliable; mine runs like a top. But, you have to hold it and shoot it like you mean it. No one hand holds, no limp wristing, etc.

It's so much fun to shoot 50AE out of it, and shooting .44 MAG is amazingly easy. The barrel swap takes all of a minute.

It's a crowd favorite at the range. And, .50AE is easy to reload, too which helps tremendously with the cost of operation.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
                              Come on...what harm??

I've got a buddy who's got one in 44 mag. I'ts fun to shoot, and I was amazed at how light the recoil is vs. what I was expecting. IMO it's absolutely a "just because" gun but I'd be lying if I said that I haven't ever kicked the idea around of picking one up.
