    They are so freaking heavy.

I'm not throwing stones because I have 10+ Berettas. I have no idea why. Same with Smith revolvers.

I have the MkVII in brushed shooting .44mag, so I don't have the option to put on a .50 barrel. First thing I did was replace the recoil springs as those wear out after 1k rounds and I didn't know how old they were. I've never had a problem with reliability but a few limp-wristed friends have. This thing wants a rock-solid grip.

I was lucky enough to get mine for $700 off of Craigslist through an incredible stroke of luck. I love shooting it and letting others have fun with it. It actually recoils far less than the same rounds through my Super Blackhawk, which makes sense because of the weight and different centerline.

Is it practical? Hell no! Which is exactly why I bought it. It's eyecatching, throws a lovely ball of flame and puts an evil grin on my face . Money well spent.

They have them in stock (10 ea) at Davidson's, if you have a relationship with a local receiving FFL who gives good deals:

I like mine. Was thinking about getting rid of it, but I just cant do it. Not yet. Its trippy when you shoot it a bit and get used to it, then shoot a regular sized gun. Like taking off roller blades after a day of skating

People seem to either love them or hate them. Personally, I love mine. Was it expensive? Yes. Is it wholly impractical? Yes. Is it insanely fun to shoot, and does it put a huge smile on my face every time I run it? Absolutely! One of these days I'll pick up the .44 barrel for it.

If I'm going to waste money on a dumb, impractical hand cannon, why not do it right, in a real man's caliber like 45/70?

Get the gold plated one; nothing denotes class more than a gold plated Desert Eagle. I can't afford one, and flagellate myself daily because this shortcoming...Robin Williams only had a couple of dozen; so you know where that leads.

Figured I'd ask this here since I didn't get a response in the optics forum. I'm looking at putting a red dot site on my new desert eagle. My cal friendly model has the standard two slot rail rather than the multi-slot picatinny rail that other models have. Will I still be able to mount a regular red dot sight on it or will I have to pay for that multi slot mounting rail.

Dovetailing into that question, anyone have any recommendations for red dot sites that can handle the recoil of these beasts and aren't too expensive? Say under 300 bucks?
