    CCW Gun Specs

Is there any semiauto handgun out there that meets the following entirely subjective requirements?

Barrel length of no more than 3.5", height no more than 4.25", at widest point no more than 1.25" and weighing no more than 26 oz (unloaded) in 9, 40 or 45 ACP and with a manual safety.

I've had a LTC/CCW for most of my life (unfortunately not CA) & have progresively gone from larger to smaller guns. I've settled on the above as pretty much what I'd look at as the ideal, and I know some manufacturers hit some of the points but none that I know of hit all. I have a Colt Defender, fine on weight and other requirements - but it's too tall. The Detonics I have are fine on height, but too heavy.

I'm flexible on action type - DA or SA only, DA & SA, etc.

If you consider a 380, the Glock 42 meets all of your dimensional requirements

The Sig 938 meets all of the above requested parameters.

The S&W Shield or M&P Compact would both fit those criteria (Shield being thinner).

I'm thinking most manufactures websites have dimensions listed with all their models.

Thanks - I wasn't aware of the model. Knew of their 238, which I really like but it's in a too small caliber. And no plastic frame which, although not a deal breaker is something I don't care for.

              Look at this chart:

Comparison of Pocket Semi-Automatic Handguns Overall Length of Less Than Six Inches - .32 ACP or Larger

Kahr MK9 or MK40 fits the bill and you get a steel frame. AMT 9, 40 or 45 also. Sig 938 with aluminum frame is a great choice if you like single action only and 1911 style safety. Kimber Solo is also another single action option and has aluminum frame. If you're into SAO, I really like the Sig 938 - several styles to choose from, the Scorpion being my favorite.

Thanks - I'd kind of forgotten about the AMT in 45 ACP. Had one for a while, mine actually worked. Kind of surprised to think it weighed only 24oz.

I know Sig has a few options that would be up for your challenge. Have you considered the Beretta Nano? That one looks like a real gem.

The Sig 938 fits the bill and the price looks good on a few versions. Doesn't look to be CA legal. From what I've read it's been out for a while, so I'd presume if it was going to be CA legal that would have happened. No mag disconnect from what I've read, don't know about the LCI.

Oh well, there are ways. Time to put the Kahr Mk9 up for sale ....

My keltec P-11 is close to those requirements but it doesn't have a manual safety. If you want a manual safety, then a Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompact will meet those requirements. The Bersa is DA/SA and the safety decocks the hammer and disconnects the trigger.

The ruger lc9 fits all of your specs except one. It's .25 in to tall. If you can deal with that 1/4 inch it's a great pistol to consider. It's thin, light, and very accurate for its size.

I was also going to suggest the LC9, then he went and added a preference for no plastic frame I really like my LC9...

I just picked up the Sig P938 "AG" version - stainless slide, matte black alloy frame and black aluminum grips. Checkering on the grips is very agressive as is the checkering on the front strap of the frame. I'm not a fan of ambi safeties, but the levers are fairly trim. I like that the action can be cycled with the safety on.

The gun seems very well made overall, is thin and compact, 16 oz empty/21 oz loaded. I can get two fingers on the grip, no more.

If anyone has experience with this pistol, what it likes for ammo for example, reliability, please feel free to pass on the info.
