The only 9 mm I own is a XD. I had a Ruger P85 (replaced by the P89) and that was cool also. First gun I would suggest a Ruger P89 which can be bought for around $400 or an XD. My dad has a Beretta 92f which I also like.

My next HG purchase will either be a HK 2000 V3 (if you can even get it in CA) or a XD 45ACP.

If you can rent before you buy.

its been referred to a few times, but to put it specifically, hold each firearm mentioned (there are a ton of good ones mentioned in previous posts) in your hand and make sure that the grip size, grip angle, slide/mag release, safety, etc. feel good in your hand.

when u have all the aforementioned pistols laying in front of you, go with your gut, since you cant really go wrong with any of them. we can talk to you for hours on end with our preferences (i personally own a HK USP40) but our preferences arent as important as yours.

Try going to Turners to check em out (hold em, feel em out) then maybe find a range in the area that carries that firearm to try shooting. if you do your research, ull find one thats perfect for ya. good luck!

Go to a range with a friend and rent and shoot a few guns that you're interested in. You may discover things you like/dislike about the gun that you never thought about.

I'd go with the XD hands down.
Yeah, to hell with sigs. There are a lot of guns out there that can match the performance at a lesser cost. Go XD9, it was my first 'serious' 9mm and it hasn't failed me yet.
