Help a noob pick a striker 9mm

Each have its pros and cons. If you're main concern is comfortable grip, I would recommend ones with adjustable straps to adjust to your liking. I would like to say HK VP9 but I won't receive mine until next month. I like the HK because you can switch out not only the backstraps but also the sides. If you can't get one, the Walther PPQ & S&W M&P Pro would be my recommendation for comfortable grip and nice stock trigger. Glock isn't comfortable or natural to me as I have small to medium hands plus it's on the blocker side.

Why are you restricting it to striker fired? Do you just want a polymer framed gun so it's light?

If you can stand the amazing feel and wonderful trigger of an all metal 1911, you may fit the small grip and install an extra long trigger.

If you got odd shaped hands, 1st thing to do is spend some time gripping ALL possible guns in friendly LGS.

Make sure you show the clerk your meat-hooks and express your concerns, so they don't think you are just being an *** asking for every gun in the case.

No one mentioned the XD. Very diff from Glock, not sure 'which direction' exactly but not for me and I'm a Glock hands guy.


Maybe there should be a site with various different 'typical hand prints' of about 50 types. Print out sheets and one that matches your hands will have some clues as to best gun, trigger length, etc for you.

No I have not gotten mine yet. But based on the reviews from YouTube, the trigger breaks appear to be very early.

One huge factor I like is the fact that not only does it allow you to change backstraps but it will allow you to change out the sides. I mentioned that I won't receive mine until next month so can't fully recommend it yet but I have a HK P30LS and changing the thickness of the sides have provided me with a firmer grip that is suitable for my hands and have proven to be beneficial.

I own one (have a 2nd waiting to be drosed as well too), I like it but not more than my PPQ at this stage. Build quality is much better than my PPQ though. For striker fired, it is a two horse race imo (if starting from scratch) VP9 or PPQ

M&P 9 with the large backstrap. I have long fingers and large hands too and I like the large backstrap, though I settled on the medium and ended up switching to the Crimson Trace grip which is about half way between the two and that seems perfect for me.

A buddy of mine has a Houge overmold grip on his Glock and I really liked the feel. The grip on my Shield is too small so I've been trying some add-ons and haven't quite arrived at a solution yet. I have a Hogue Hand-All Jr. on my Kahr and it really helped with that one a lot, but it doesn't fit the Shield, so I tried a Pachmayr that's made for the Shield and I like the fit but not the feel.

The main thing is, GO TRY A BUNCH and see what's most comfortable for you. You should always check the fit and feel of any firearm before buying it, and then try to rent one and actually shoot it after you've figured out what fits your hand most comfortably.

If the Sig 2022 is too fat, you won't like most of the Glock, M&P or XD.

Try the Ruger SR's, M&P Shield, XDS. They all have thinner grips.

I don't think anyone can go wrong with getting a G17/19/22 right out the gate as first pistol.

I have about the same hand measurements as you, glocks don't fit well but I like the XD40 quite a bit, same frame as the xd9 I believe. Go to a gun store and try a bunch out.

The FNS has a relatively narrow grip(front to back, not width) for a double stack. It's trigger also breaks sooner than say an XD or Beretta. Maybe try to find an FNP/FNX locally if you can't find an FNS to see how the grip feels. Should be similar.

If the 2022 is too fat for your palm, so will the Glock. Look at a MP9 or the new HK VP9 as posted already.

I have both a 2022 and glock 19. the glock seems to be slimmer. to me at least.

I found the Ruger SR series to be comfy; they also come with customizable backstraps.

The M&P9 feels quite nice too and also comes with adjustables.
