What's it like owning a handgun in San Francisco?

I'm currently living in East Bay and even though its not exactly freeland, it's pretty good for the shooting sport. Thinking about moving to SF, and I understand there's a few additional laws for gun owners in the city.

Would like an opinion on how's it's like owning a gun and going to the range regularly in SF. Hard to imagine not bring able to ship ammo to your door or keep your pre ban mags with you...
I'd rather be at the range!

No different than how us LA city folks live with our handguns.

For now, SF has the standard capacity mag ban and LA isn't too far behind. That's really the only difference.

Doesn't SF have a mail order ammo ban?

I have a perfect Burning Man attendance record: zero.

You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.

I lived in SF for 8 years, I wasn't THAT into shooting at the time though. I'd go to Jackson Arms on occasion and I handloaded my own ammo (for rifles and .45 acp). I'd pick up components at the cow palace shows. This was back in the day when components were cheap.

I have a friend who mailorders and recieves shotgun shells to his place in SF, though some online stores won't.

Know a lot of friends with handguns in SF. Owning one isn't any different there than the rest of Bay Area or urban areas of CA. Only real difference with SF is that there it is a little more rainbow-ish.

Why would a sane person even contemplate visiting SF? Much less moving there......

It's a beautiful city. Very vibrant arts and music scene. That's why I visit there often.

                    Wouldn't live there though.

NO. Last year the city banned "Black Talon" ammo.
BTW: "Black Talons" have not been for sale in 20yrs and have not been
manufactured for over 10yrs. Should have banned Unicorns too. I hear those
                      single points are real sharp.

I live in SF with about 10 guns. 4 off roster. It is really not any different than living anywhere else IMO. Other than the ammo mail ban everything else is about the same.

Good to hear! So far nothing extremely negative about the city. I like the variety of things you can do in the city. Its great. Just dont feel great having to be discreet and stuff about my hobby.

And ammo that "duplicates its performance", i.e Winchester Ranger-T series, Federal HST were added and most likely PDX-1, Golden Saber, Gold Dot at some point!
Being in the gun owner in S.F. Is ironically like being in the closet . Sheesh!
