I was under the same impression but checked with the FFL that I use for SSE and was told that because it was recoated in hard chrome and not a PPT, I would have to SSE it. I was surprised.

Unless PPT, even if you buys a gun from another person, it will still require SSE even if it comes with different grips that the CA roster allows.
