Check the Calguns handguns for sale section, in about a month and a half. Got a feeling there will be more then a few.

yep, with all the hype about this gun (hype that may be well deserved, if that's your opinion) I suspect that a large number of sales are investments. At least here in CA.

Well for me its more like SSE is going away, better get it now rather than wanting to get it down the road.

BTW, our friendly FFL in AZ sent an email saying that my LEO package for the VP9 just arrived. Hopefully next week I can go start my dros

I think there's gonna be a lot of WTT listings.

                      VP9 Questions from a Newb

I am a newbie and need help obtaining a HK VP9, or at least holding one in my hands so I can compare and contrast with a Smith & Wesson M&P. I've been told by some that I have to "move out of the state" in order to get a VP9 but then I see post after post of people here who've been able to get one.

I'm so confused and frustrated at this point.

Please forgive my inexperience and naive questions, but I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone. What exactly does a California resident have to do in order to obtain an HK VP9? I appreciate any help I can get. I had second thoughts about posting to this thread, figured I might catch some flack for being so green at this, posting newbie questions among handgun veterans. Anyway, I don't want to hijack the thread with my inexperience, so if you can help a girl out, please feel free to private message me.

                      Thank you in advance.

Swellkell, the thing you want to look up is the Single Shot Exemption.

                          Short version:

The VP9 is not on the California roster of handguns certified for sale. Therefore you can't just go into a dealer in this state and buy one off the shelf.

The SSE allows for guns to be sold if they're in a single shot format.

Therefore, guns that aren't on the roster can be sold of they're single shot.

What you do with the gun after you take it into possession is entirely up top you. This includes having a single shot gun converted into it's original configuration.

There are some dealers (FFLs) who will facilitate this process for you.

The process, however, exists in a loophole that will be closed on 1/1/2015, which is why you see the current buying frenzy over and above the usual new gunv release frenzy.

                          Does that answer your question?

Swellkell, where do you go from here?

For starters, check around on these forums to see if you can find someone to let you hold or shoot a VP9 to see if it's really worth the effort to upgrade. If you're really lucky, you may have a sore woth one in a case for you to try out.

Next, find an FFL in your area that is able to do SSE on a VP9 with a SSE snd transfer fee schedule acceptable to you. I've seen them range from $65-$150, with most hovering in the $100-150 range.

Check to see if they have a line or are accepting out of state transfers for SSE.

Find your gun and have it shipped to your FFL.

Your FFL will convert it to single shot.

You pay taxes, fees and DROS and come back in 10 days.

You pick up the gun and follow your FFL's instructions.

Bring the gun back and have it converted to a semi auto, unless you really like it as single shot.

                              OR

Find one in the marketplace on this site and avoid most of this hassle, although some listings will drop you in at the point where you go tip the FFL to pay taxes, fees and DROS.

                              Good luck!

Pretty sure someone on here lives close by and would gladly let him shoot their VP9, he can pay us back with a 6-pack or some ammo.
