    another cz thread. help please!!!

    Hey guys,

I need some input and help wit my cz 97b. I have had it about a year and have put about 100 rounds through it. I have no idea how many were through it before me. I need some help from my fellow cal gunners and the cz experts.

    1. What color(s) should I get on the gun? This is only because I am tired of the coating and there are some scratches and dings in the coating.

    2. What mods are a good idea to make it reliable with hollow points and make it a better shooter?

    3. How hard is it to switch it to single action only if it's better that way, get a straight trigger on it, and put a different hammer on it?

    Thanks guys

Cz custom or cajun gun works both do lots of custom work on the 97s

I've had one for a couple of months. The later version with aluminum grips and FO sight.

My hands are on the small side but I got it despite the many comments I read about the thick, wide grip. I don't mind the grip, but the DA reach is really long.

Anyway, I like it a lot and chime in only because I will also look forward to any replies.

First you might want to go to http://www.cajungunworks.com/ and check out what they offer.

Then i would email Cajun Gun Works or CZ Customs, they should be able to assist you in sorting out what work to have done within your price range.

Sorry i cannot directly address your questions. Maybe someone with more experience can chime in.

I recently picked up a CZ97 myself and plan on sending it to CGW to have it gone over.

I've had my 97B for about 18 months now and it's a very soft shooting pistol for a .45.

I'd start by ditching the factory sights. Cajun gun works has the EZ drifts that are great. Slim aluminum grips help a lot for smaller hands.

Dave at CGW can also convert it to SAO or you can order the parts and youtube a DIY.

As far as reliably running hollowpoints all depends if your 97B came with or without a ramped barrel. I suspect yours came with a non-ramped barrel therefore your 97B having problems with hollowpoints. If that's a case then you might want to contact CZ-USA. They'll will either switch out the barrel or do work on it.

There is virtually no limit on what can be done with the 97. CGW has built many custom versions up to an including professional 97's for bullseye shooting competition.

schmeky (@CGW if you didn't know) has worked on my now wife's SP-01 and my 97B. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's very customer service oriented and he will make sure you're happy. The amount of patience he has is amazing, I know I bugged him one too many times, yet he still was able to respond to my emails. He's done some pretty nice 97Bs if you search the original CZ forums.

I bought the parts to convert to SAO and did my 97B myself and used the SP-01 he did completely as a reference. He always answered my questions during my installation. After converting my 97B to SAO, I sent in the slide to get the 1911 bushing and rear EZ drift sight put in.

As far as hollow points, you probably need the updated barrel. CGW has those as well. I hear nothing but praise for CZC also, but my first experience in dealing with CGW made me choose CGW again. Good luck, the 97B is an awesome pistol.

Yeah I love it. I wanted two years to track one down because I didn't know about sse and way over paid lol but it was what I really wanted. I am going to get the 1911 bushing. I want to go through CGW it just money but I will be saving and send it off. I will get sights cause the stock ones are terrible. I need the updated barrel but it's 150 lol. Question for the 97b owners do you guys like the slim aluminum grips cause I don't. I bought them and love how they look but I don't feel they are aggressive enough in my hand. I like the stock ones cause it makes the pistol fat lol

I dislike the aluminum grips, they're too thin. I really wish somebody would make some G10 grips for the 97B. The feel of a 1911 grip on a CZ 97 would be perfect

Sending it to CGW for his reach reduction kit (RRK), buy it and install it yourself, or eliminate the DA and convert it to SAO like the one below. Either one will solve your problem with the long DA reach.

David, I'll be sending you my newly acquired 97B to have 1911 bushing mod done in the near future. Also, will the ambi Shadow safeties fit on the 97B with a race hammer w/o fitting the safety pad since Shadows already come with a comp hammer?

This picture doesn't do your 1911 bushing mod justice but that 97B's brushed frame, Shadow controls, EZ Sights, and your stainless race hammer looks sweet.

I don't mind the aluminum grips that came with mine, but have poked around for other options. Can't find much at all. How do the wood ones found of previous models compare.

Speaking of grips, my only gripe is the screw on the left side panel shoots itself loose. Even blue Loctite was not enough. Better use more next time!

Not that hard, just take your time. The hardest part will probably be the hammer pins, you'll need a starter punch for that. There are many links that show a teardown of the parts for CZs that you can use as a guide. Just go slow and you'll be fine. Be careful of flying springs in certain places such as the sear assembly and the trigger spring.
