    S&W 686 Mountain Gun

    ALCON:

Last week I happen to come across a Smith and Wesson 686 (Mountain Gun) (7 shot) which was on consignment @ only 250 made. Unfortunately it was already sold and my heart tanked.

Has anyone ever had any dealings with Lipsey's Guns in special ordering one and will there be an issue with the CA DOJ Roster?

Is there a major difference in accuracy between full lug and 1/2 lug.

    Thank you

It's not on the roster. You will need to convert it to single action to DROS it. After you pick it up you can put back as DA/SA.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The full lug vs 1/2 lug is cosmetic in a .357

Why not simply buy a new 4" S&W revolver???

If the model you want is off roster, you will need to have a gunsmith replace the DA/SA sear with one that is ground down to SA only.

After you DROS and take delivery, they can replace the original parts.

SSE should add another $75-$100 to the cost plus the extra Sear + Time to grind.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
      (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

It's not just the under-lug - the barrel profile is narrower, tapered, and thinner to shave off extra weight to be a "mountain gun"

I'm not sure the weight difference, but I'm sure it's lighter then a standard 4" 686

I've got a 629 Mountain gun and it's not as fun to shoot as a standard 629.

theres no grinding involved, simple removal will do..step outside..come back into the shop and ask them to do a DA conversion for you

If you really want a 7 shot ( the Lipseys is a 6) you'll find quite a few 686+ 3 inch barrel around....if your concern is weight for carrying...otherwise little difference with the "Mountain Gun" version if your intent is to carry

As far as I'm concerned, my 4" 686+ is my "mountain gun."
I also shoot it the best of all my revolvers.
