I would shoot them. I shoot set back .40 gold dots all the time. I've never had a single problem with them functioning in the gun and I still have all of my fingers. I've done it with Glocks, XDs, Smiths, Sigs, and Rugers. None have ever had a problem with it. Here's an article about it. You may be surprised by the results of the tests.

When 99% of the people tell you not to fire them, because it might not be safe.
Wonder what the right answer is.sigpic"Don't mistake my kindness for weakness. I am kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me, weak is not what you are going to remember about me."

OP, since you know what bullet setback is and obviously had the good sense to set them aside that should tell you right there. If you feel like trying them out, let us know how it goes. But personally, if I question it I'm not shooting it. I can see if you have a lot of ammo like that and don't want to just waste it, but if it's a few rounds why don't you save yourself from the what if's.Comment

no... unless maybe, just maybe, it's much more robust barrel designed for handling very hot rounds (much like how some 9mm sub guns can shoot much hotter loads than most standard 9mm pistols).
if it were me though, i wouldn't shoot them, strong barrel or no.Comment

That's because people that shoot ammo like that are pron to losing the ability to operate a keyboard.
I'm sure there is some fingerless cheapskate pecking away at a keyboard right now with his nose trying to type: "NO! DON'T DO IT!"
And it's a real easy fix with a kinetic puller and a seating die.Comment

Risk/benefit analysis of shooting them;
Benefit:
- You get to shoot three bullets, total cost probably 50 cents
Risk:
- Your gun is damaged and you have to spend probably more than 50 cents to fix it
- You get hurt and your lose vision in one eye or cut your hand or whatever
So ... not worth it.==================

.035" setback is not enough. In fact, that could still be within the OAL for that particular powder and bullet weight. Generally speaking, heavy bullets with fast burning powders are at the most risk. Take it .10" back and the pressure doubles. They did not use a pressure test rig barrel, which is the only way to measure pressure.I would shoot them. I shoot set back .40 gold dots all the time. Based on the photo, I would not shoot them because they are too fuzzy.Democrats>Socialists>Communists - Same goals, different speeds.
