M&P Shield .. 9mm or 40?

Going to SSE one next week, just trying to decide on .40 or 9mm

Would the only benefit of 9mm be less felt recoil? Has anyone shot the 40 version, was the recoil "that bad"

Seems like if you're that limited in rounds it might be nicer to have a larger round.

Is the 9mm version the same size as the 40?

Thoughts?

40 more snappy so harder with follow up shots. But if you use +p 9mm then it the same IMO.

I shot the .40 at the Turners fair last weekend. I thought the recoil was very manageable, even better compared to the Glock 27 IMO, which I also shot at the fair. I say go with the caliber you are most comfortable having. I went ahead jailed a .40 Shield at Riflegear this week if that's any indication.

9mm for sure. 40's are noisy little things and with the shorter Shield barrel they will be noisier still. My comment is presuming that you will actually train with the firearm at the range....FREQUENTLY.

I have a .40, and I've not shot the 9mm, so take my advice FWIW. I'd go with .40. I have no problem at all with the recoil and I'm not a big or particularly strong guy. You can also put a 9mm barrel in the .40 if you really want to. Can't go wrong either way, the Shield is a great little gun

Get the gun that you shoot accurately the best. Regardless of what is said regarding the debate on caliber, shot placement is everything.

I've shot the .40 a fair amount and didn't find it hard to shoot at all. Very comfortable. That being said, I wouldnt mind the extra round the 9mm gives you.

If you like to shoot the 40, you should go for it. But if you get it because of better stopping power, it won't.

I have both,. The 9 is more fun to shoot. Quicker to reacquire target. WAY cheaper to train with.

All that being said, my carry choice is my .40.....go figure.

.40 is the better round, nine is cheaper. Make your choice based on what works for you.

I've shot both. The 9MM is much more pleasant to shoot but the 40S&W is still very manageable - especially with a Pearce pinky extension. I think 9MM will be fine as long as you select your ammunition carefully and so far based on what I've found on the web I'm planning to use either Federal's 124gr +P HST or Speer's 124gr +P Gold Dot For Short Barrels depending on availability.

I got the 40 for the simple fact I also got a 9 mm barrel it shoots both flawlessly.
