    Colt cobra 38

My pops has one that I am looking at buying off him so he can fund some art projects. I don't know much about revolvers at all, but it looks clean. Any input of this make and model? Good and bad opinions and experiences wanted. Thanks!

Colt made a really fine revolver. So long as it's in any shape other than parts I would buy it.

The Cobra is a light weight 6 shot pocket revolver and was chambered in .38 Spc, .32 Colt (aka .32 S&W Long) and .22lr.
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Can it handle +p or should it be fed standard velocity?

My department policy for revolvers is if it says, "38 Spc +P" on the barrel they give you +P ammo. If it only says "38 Special" then you only get standard. The whole liability issue thing.

The Colt Cobras were made between 1950 to 1981 so it is an "old" revolver.

The Cobra is a great little revolver. Colt made two different generations of this gun. The first generation date from the early 1950's to the early 1970's. These guns did not have a shrouded ejector rod. I believe these guns are NOT rated for +P ammo.

The Cobra with the shrouded ejector rod are rated for LIMITED +P ammo. I would use +P only for a carry load.

Plus as noted above the frame of the Cobra is alloy and is much lighter than a all steel gun like the Detective Special. Using +P ammo in such a light gun can be "hand full"

I wouldn't shoot +P out of a Cobra under any circumstances. They are simply too fragile.

Any Colt Revolver is worth owning.
I would not abuse it any more than necessary. If you really want it for HD, just accept that .38 special is the limit. You could do much worse.
Cannot wait too see the pics :-).

I saw a very clean used one for $600 at Turners, if it were a 22lr i would have snapped it up. Going rate on gunbroker seems to be in the $500 range.

If it looks like the Cobra, do it.
