i was sold on the sa xd but what was undecided which caliber to get 9 mm or 40. then i saw the 45acp (though they dont show that price). so i started reading posts and got more educated (i love this site) but now the 1911s have entered my thought process. the one thing im sold on it will be a SA. as for caliber i have handguns from a buckmark 22 up to a S&W 460 so power isnt an issue. also i assume if i go with the 45acp that they do have 10 round mags for it (though i would love the 13 round mag but). with the 30 day waiting period i will be playing with my new M1A but want to buy the handgun this week. Accuracy is important. thanks for all your imput.

I will give you input (not imput). The XD and 1911 are VERY different guns...go out and shoot them both at a range. Decide which is best for you. The 1911 can only hold 8 rounds maximum in the grip, but they make 10 rounds that stick out the bottom of the grip. People can give you advice all day long about each, but it will come down to which you like the best. You can't go wrong with either a SA XD or 1911.Originally posted by cnyankeei was sold on the sa xd but what was undecided which caliber to get 9 mm or 40. then i saw the 45acp (though they dont show that price). so i started reading posts and got more educated (i love this site) but now the 1911s have entered my thought process. the one thing im sold on it will be a SA. as for caliber i have handguns from a buckmark 22 up to a S&W 460 so power isnt an issue. also i assume if i go with the 45acp that they do have 10 round mags for it (though i would love the 13 round mag but). with the 30 day waiting period i will be playing with my new M1A but want to buy the handgun this week. If you decide to go the 1911 route, it would probably be best to go with a "loaded" model. It comes with some great upgrades that come cheaper than you can buy them individually yourself. If you really prefer to do things yourself and upgrade over time, then perhaps the Mil-Spec (NOT the GI model) would be best for you.
And P.S. the 30 day wait between guns only applies to handguns that are bought from/through a dealer (PPT's and estate sales don't apply).Expert firearms attorney: https://www.rwslaw.com/team/adam-j-richards/

Be a rebel and get this:
9mm goodness packaged in a 1911.
And it's CA approved.

I don't doubt that the SA 9mm 1911 is a great shooter but something just doesn't feel right when you say 9mm with 1911. +1 on what ohsmilly said. I just picked up a Loaded 1911 myself in OD Green Armor Kote. I also have a SA XD9 also with the OD Green treatment on the polymer frame (what can I say, I love green). Either way you can't go wrong with any springfield products. If only the 3" GI mil-spec was CA approved, I could build my own little carry 1911. Until that happens I may have to settle w/ a champion/full size GI mil-spec or regular mil-spec to get my feet wet in 1911 upgrading.Comment

Agreed, I have both an XD and 1911s and they are very very different types of handguns. You should definitely try them both to see which you like better.Originally posted by ohsmilyThe XD and 1911 are VERY different guns...go out and shoot them both at a range. Decide which is best for you.
They also have very different manuals of arms. XD is "glock like" in its safety procedures and how it handles...I think of it like driving an automatic. 1911 is like driving a stick.Comment
