    Help me identify this S&W

    Howdy all,

My friend got this revolver decades ago from his uncle that was a LEO in Fairbanks AK. It appears to be a K frame, 2" barrel, DAO (possibly converted), round butt. I cannot find a serial number anywhere.

I have attached photos to help out, but since I'm on an iPad, each one will appear in a separate post.

Please and thank you fellow CALGUNNERS

check the bottom of the grip frame, for the serial number. It and the model are also probably under the yoke.

Either a mod 66 or 19. 66 is stainless 19 carbon steel. the 19 came in a chrome version. My bet is a 19 well worn too though, looks like the standard red ramp was changed to yellow at some point.

What is stamped on the frame?

It looks like a blued model 19 with the hammer spur ground off and a 2.5 inch barrel. It is well worn.

That's the serial number. The serial number and the model should also be stamped on the frame under the yoke, not on the yoke itself.

Appears to be a Model 19. They were offered in blue and nickel; not chrome. It appears to be a 2-1/2" round butt that has had the hammer 'bobbed' for ease of concealed carry. Model 19's are good guns and getting harder to find these days. A good smith can replace the hammer, tighten and retime the action if needed.

Pull the grips and you'll find the serial number on the bottom of the butt.

As already stated looks to be a model 19 with a 2 1/2 barrel and bobbed hammer. A ready great plain clothes cop gun. I have one and it is my daily carry. Given the condition and the bobbed hammer, you may want to have a gunsmith check it out. Timing, end shake, etc.

Take the grips off, the serial number is on the bottom of the grip.

It's definitely a M-19, probably a 19-5 or later, as it has the unpinned bbl and the unrecessed chambers.

Model number is stamped on the frame directly across from the yoke (the part that has the stamped assembly numbers "A5" and "68125") as is the the serial number ("AAT3416").
