Double wield handgun action? Effective?

You always see in the movies, when SHTF someone doing the double wield option.

Effective or not? I know this might sound like a lame question but I've seriously been thinking, would it be better to have one pistol, or have two rallying off rounds at the same time. Thoughts?

I'm not that good, the thing is, all indoor ranges won't allow you to try the double wield action. Obviously for safety reasons.

Joking aside, shooting with one hand takes lots of practice, shooting one hand with the non dominant hand takes even more practice. So much so that double wielding is practically a "non-option".

LOL hilarious. I don't have two matching ones. I do have a 9mm and a .45, semi-autos and I was holding them each in one hand thinking, "If SHTF and I was running the streets of LA, would I double wield?". I'm not that great of a shooter but getting better, but figured it would be better to use one, other in backpack.

If you practice it isn't ineffective (and it doesn't take that long to become proficient enough with your non-dominant hand for SD). That being said, unless you had multiple attackers coming from multiple angles, I think you lose more than you gain.

In the movies, cops get in shootouts three times per hour, never get days off or sent to a grand jury, etc. Don't believe what you see in the movies.

Try holding one gun in each hand and using the sights on both at the same time. It's impossible.

Set up a shot timer to record your time
Set up a target at 7 yards
Shoot 10 shots with 1 pistol

Repeat and shoot 10 shots- 5 from two pistols.

Only hits count for the final score-
Add 5 seconds for each miss to the time

Have someone filming you
