I'm living with the rooster tail. The paint job is pretty bad, it looks like someone put on some nail polish, it's sloppy, doesn't cover the entire part and looks like it will just flake off eventually. A little black Testors paint and a super fine brush can get rid of the 'warning'.

So far the sights seem pretty good for me, it's rather accurate if your hand is steady. The trigger truly sucks. After 100 rounds yesterday my trigger finger feels like it's going to fall off. My Browning 9mm is super smooth in comparison, it's a stock trigger. The long pull and break are really a downside on the Shield, one of the worst stock triggers I've used. I'm used to 3.5 lb. AR triggers so a lighter pull would be a big improvement. I'm not worried about anomomous 'hear-say' comments on an internet board getting raised in a court case. That would be fun to watch get struck down.

As others have said, this is FUD - see below.

      Exactly.

I actually don't mind the red paint since it doesn't interfere with my sight picture. It's the white letters on top that distract my eyes when focusing on the front sight. I ended up using a Birchwood Casey Black touch up pen to fill in the white letters and it matches the melonite finish perfectly.

Yep. That white letters distracted my focus on the front sight. It was very annoying. I just removed the entire LCI.

I'm seriously disenchanted with the LCI on my Shield. All the red and white paint just wore off when I was
cleaning the spent power off my slide with a brass wire tooth brush and some gun cleaning solvent. You'd think S&W would use better paint.

I have the tritium fiber optic sights on my Shield and love them. That and the Talon grip tape are the two best mods, imho.

                Let's see a pic.

I would think it would be less obnoxious now.

Amen to that... I run Ameriglo Hacks (or similar sight picture) on all my pistols now... great setup.

Yeah, the red color is sloppily painted on... I'm sure a little solvent/thinner would strip it right off. Heck, I'm not even sure if that LCI part is metal or not... it almost looks like it's plastic. I'll have to look more closely unless someone else has confirmed that it is a metal part.
