i have my glock in the 357 sig round.

it is a bit loud, but it is a zipper. hits were i aim it.

recoil impulse is no different than any other caliber. **learn to shoot it, and practice, practice, practice...**

This. Also, the bottleneck cartridge feeds very reliably.

Lots of interesting information here. I like the idea of an uncommon round for novelty. All the better if it's effective. Might look at it for a P229 or something

Ah chucks......just move up to 10MM with the option of running 9X25 in a Glock..

Basically a boutique round, solves problems that really don't exist. Just 9mm and forget it, they have no made a better gunfighter round yet.
It is significantly faster and much flatter shooting than any 9mm. 115 grain bullet going 1,600 fps out of a 4.5" barrel.

The thing I like about it is you can get a barrel for your .40 p226/229. Then you can shoot either. I haven't shot a 357sig personally, one of the guys at work has an m&p 40 with a 357 sig barrel. He says it's fun to shoot but expensive.

                Math / physics

                KE= 1/2M x V2

Kinetic Energy = 1/2 mass (bullet weight) times Velocity SQUARED

When you square 1,100 fps vs squaring 1,600 fps, the math shows a lot more KE
                (1100*1100) =1,210,000 vs (1600*1600)= 2,560,000

The gel tests on u tube show a visual of the effect

The only problem is that the bullet manufacturer makes 9mm bullets to expand at 1,000- 1,150 fps

So the .357 sig round has some quirks where the jacket can seperate or the petals rip off of the core.

                  power is nothing without control.

modern projectiles are carefully designed to take the amount of energy they have to work with, and provide as high a wound quality as possible in as many relevant situations as possible.

all the gunpowder in the world won't help without the cubic gigadollars used in determining the exact profile and thickness of jackets, the exact alloy and hardness of cores, the strength of the adhesion between the two, the shape of the whole package.

when they made .357 sig, projectile design was not nearly as sophisticated as it is now.

There are 357 Sig specific projectiles.

                      9mm-vs- 357SIG

Faster so it gets to the target quicker. Flatter trajectory. Able to penetrate (some) barriers better if the bullet doesn't disintegrate on impact. Less magazine capacity if you are allowed to own high-cap magazines. Bottleneck cartridges usually feed better. Hollow points open up quicker, but not necessarily in a shorter distance. More than 2x the cost of 9mm ammo. You can tell people you own a SIG even if you don't: It is kinda like saying you have a Fo-Tay when you have a 40S&W. 357 SIG reloading dies cost 2x 9mm dies. The 357SIG is suppose to match the ballistics of a 125 grain 357 Magnum cartridge; most likely out of a short 4" revolver barrel.

...and if you already had regular capacity mags and a Glock in that caliber or add a aftermarket barrel on a model 22, or 27... you can have 15, 17, 22, or 31 rounds of it in one mag... try that in a revolver. Necked cartridges feed better, more powder equals more energy if it isn't wasted burning outside a short barrel.

I think the Underwood loads I have now are 1475 fps and lighter bullets get up to 1850... think about what 9x25 Dillon could do.

Do you need it, probably not. You don't need a lot of things you want.

I have one, just because. I disagree with the poster above that said it was a solution searching for a problem that doesn't exist. The problem does exist and the 357SIG does a decent job of fixing it. The problem is barrier penetration in shooting scenarios where a person is limited to a handgun.

That being said, for normal folk (non-LEO, etc...) it's hard to think of a situation in this state where you shoot somebody through a barrier and not end up in prison. For me it is more of a range toy.

I hear you. I love 9mm, and modern bullets and +P loads are good enough. Capacity is great too. You can have 9mm like Buffalo Bore, Underwood, Corbon and others that are super accurate and fast. I have 115 grain +p+ that is about as much energy as you can get in a 9mm, but all guns won't handle it. I wouldn't shoot it out of a Shield or some older guns. Maybe +p for the Shield. Everything from 9mm up to 10mm should be fine. They are all still pistol rounds and none of those are .44 mags or 50AE's or .500's or 454's... and none of THOSE are rifles. It is just fun to shoot a variety if you are not a gunfighter.

There's always something bigger and badder unless you only have five shots in a cylinder.

For what it's worth my glock 31 was the most accurate glock I've ever owned. Freak show accurate. Back when fiocchi ammo was $8.95 a box I ran about 8000 rounds through the pistol. When prices skyrocketed to $40 a box I gifted the pistol to my dad since he liked it and just bought a glock 22.

Flatter shooting as if you can tell the difference in trajectory while shooting either round. Gimmie a break!
