Does your S&W Shield do this?

After firing a mag and the slide stays back you see a big gap between the slide and frame..but you can push it down so the gap is not so big....no need to fire off a mag to see this...stop the slide back and i can slightly pull up on the slide and create a big gap...seems odd

is there supposed to be a pin in the hole behind the thumb safety?

well...seems on a google image search there is supposed to be a pin by the safety AND one in the hole above the trigger...i have neither!!! this sucks

Don't worry that is just the California model it has a huge gap between the frame and the slide. This serves as a loaded mag indicator, allowing you to see if your mag is loaded. Works in conjunction with the bright red loaded chamber indicator.

I'm sorry but I have to call FUD on this whole statement. I have the California version and my buddy has the "free state" version. I have compared both versions side by side. There is no difference on the tolerances between the slide and the frame. The California version does not have a huge gape between the slide and frame that serves as a loaded mag indicator. My California version hass ALL the pins.

With a name like stormvet, you should know better than to spread such garbage and use this thread just so you can post a pic of your gun.

It was all in good fun, not to be taken seriously. Wanted to show the pins in place. I do not believe the Ca model is built to lesser standards. But I am sure with the amount of these guns S&W is pumping out there will be quality control issues. In both models, like forgetting to put the roll pins in the frame. Does say something about the gun if the OP has shot it without them and the gun functions fine.

Pictures are needed I own 3 m&p models all have a gap just not sure as big as you describe that's why pictures are needed

If the pins are not there you should be able to remove the trigger unit. Is this possible. Try removing slide then see if you can remove assembly should slide out top with a little effort
