That's off roster because it's nickel. Only ones you can get are the stainless or the Nitron finish.

The Sig stainless Rail was my first 1911, it had some issues, but they got worked out. Total for me was <$940.

There are purists that say it's not a 1911 as mentioned above, but whatever, I enjoy shooting it.

I bought the railed version strictly for the looks of it. I felt that the non traditional slide plus the rail made it look nice. Since you plan on actually using the rail, I wouldn't worry too much about what other people say about their preference in a railed or non 1911.

I found these two at a decent price. I'm building a 6.5 Grendel as we'll so having those 3 psa lowers thrown in isn't a bad option ( selling the other 2 to drop the price a little) Would you guys recommend kimber over sigs? I know it's always been an argument about who has the best affordable 1911 and some people hate kimbers some people hate sigs and blah blah. But does anyone have any hands on experience with either?

What? 1911's are the easiest pistols to SSE. I know it's off roster. I don't buy anything "on roster" anymore. I'm not going to buy leftover pistols simply because CA has "approved" them.

Indeed they are, but anything off roster usually costs more. I wasn't saying he can't get them, just letting him know that they're off roster.

The thing is with Sig 1911s, they're all the same except for minor things. Color scheme being the major one that causes one to be off roster and not. They're all stainless frame/slides. If you're set on Sig, get one that's on roster and save some money.

You have to find a FFL that can do SSE (single shot exemption). Some FFLs will accept an off roster pistol already in that configuration if they can't do the SSE themselves.

To the OP, a lot of great advice has been given so far, here's my .02:

"Buy once, cry once". If you don't have the money for the gun you really want, stop and save for it! Otherwise, you'll constantly be telling yourself, "man I wish I had waited for.......". Trust me, not a day goes buy that I don't wish that I'd waited a few months to get the Kimber Raptor instead of "settling" for the CDP, just because it was a little cheaper and in stock.

I finally got tired of settling and ordered a custom built Les Baer. Not saying you need to go to that extreme, but I wanted something different besides an off the shelf pistol.

Search around, see what railed 1911 really has what you want. Who know's maybe you'll end up with a S/A TRP or Dan Wesson Specialist if you're patient.

Budgets are meant to be broken. Just a "little" out of your range. I will also second the "buy once, cry once" ideology.

If your main need is the rail and your budget is set at $1,000, then railed Sig 1911's are a good bet. They also come with night sights, front strap checkering, match grade barrel and other good stuff.

Now, if you are particular with other things, say, a bull barrel, or an internal extractor, or holster options or full length guide rod, or off-roster, or made by an American company, or made in the USA, etc., then you just increased your choices exponentially.

Many other upgrades can be added later on if you so desire. If you want to keep your search simple, Sig is a good bet as I said above. If you want to assess all the other things that you may want, list those options and we can probably help. $1,000 may be limiting though.

Springfield Loaded is a good starting point for 1911s, IMO.

Get a rock island, recover tacticals railed 1911 grips and tons of ammo and shoot! That's my vote

Agreed! I have a set of those grips, they are solid as sh*t.

You might want a rail now, but it's nice to have the flexibility of the recover tactical option.

What ever 1911 you get, make sure you get the 3 dot sights that works for you. Some base model 1911's (like Base model Kimbers) are blank. But the Kimber TLE, has night sights.

to the OP, buy what u really want. Im a kimber lover myself. But I have the same gun as oceanbob as well as a couple kimbers and its nice too. Well under $1k unlike kimbers.
