    Need Professional 1911 Gunsmith

    Hey 1911 Gang -

I'm looking for a professional gunsmith to work on my Kimber CDPII. Specifically, to machine & install a Ed Brown "Bobbed" mainspring housing.

Kimber told me they will not in order to sell their Master Carry & Super Carry series with bobbed mainspring housing. John Harrison is not doing work like this due to the demand for his services (5 years lead time). Alan Tanaka said he does not do this operation.

I don't want to be without it for more than two to three weeks.

    Names? Personal experience?

Thanks in advance for your help.

2-3 week turn around time for a "professional 1911 gunsmith" is a pipe dream.

Try the 1911 Speed Shop in Riverside.

Jim Hoag in Canoga Park is one of the best 1911 smiths around. Not sure about your time frame though.

              Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Lol 2-3 weeks? It may take that amount of time for smith to take the slide stop off.

I've waited almost 2 years for custom work. If you're asking to bobtail your gun, that's at least a few months wait. Good luck.

I am a big Will Ohara fan. Turn around time will not be fast.

I'm 2 years into a 5 year wait to build a gun with one smith, and 1 year into a 4 year wait with another. High end professional 1911 smiths usually have a backlog measured in years, not weeks. I would definitely ask to see their work if they quote you a lead time measured in weeks.
