    Kimber vs. Ruger

I have a Kimber Pro Carry II, and currently shop for another 1911. Don't mind a second Kimber though, if nothing out there is better within my price range (sub 1K). Anyway, I saw this Ruger SR1911 Commander series that looks quite attractive.

I'm a bit undecided as whether I should pick up another Kimber Pro (stainless) to make it a pair, one steel and one stainless, or pick up this Ruger.

Pro: The Ruger costs substantially less than the Kimber, and I still have a pair of 1911, one stainless and one steel.

Con: I don't have a pair of identical Kimber, which is somewhat my original goal.

The deciding factor would be if the Ruger shoots as well as the Kimber. So the question is how many of you in here have the Ruger and think it's worth the saving? Having a pair of identical Kimber is somewhat a bragging right. But at a premium of almost $300, I don't know if I want to take. On the other hand, if it turns out that the Ruger is inferior to the Kimber in every way, then $300 is a lot less to pay.

If you got less than $1K in your pocket, why not save up some more cash and buy a second Kimber Pro Carrier II? I mean you're already familiar with the platform as you got one so what's saving up $300 more to add to your $1K and get a second Kimber?

The Ruger is a 70's style 1911. None of the Schwartz safety nonsense.

The Kimber is nice weapon, but it would be an easy choice for me, Ruger.

      Good luck with your decision!

I cant comment on the Ruger since I have never shot one. But I have a Kimber TLE Custom II. I can say it has been a great gun. Had a few feed issues at first but they seem to have gone away after a few hundred rounds. Not sure why but no more feeding issues.

I have a number of 1911s and never really seen the need to have a pair of identical 1911s. Maybe you're into the John Woo dual wield thing tho. I'd recommend going with whichever option you really want as we all seem to eventually give into it.

If I really really want the Kimber, I suppose I can pony up $300. But it's the fear of missing out something great and of significant value that makes me think twice.

Initially, I didn't like my Kimber a whole lot, but after breaking in, the gun is sweet. I love the sound and the solid feeling the slide makes when I rack the slide. That's why I'm thinking about getting the 2nd one. For roughly a grand, this is one of the best value 1911 out there.

My goal is to have a man/gun cave like this. On one side I have all my AR while on the other is my AK/Saiga. In the middle is all my handguns, starting with the 1911 .45ACP on top. So it's nice to get them in pairs and in different colors if that's possible.

To be honest, I don't see why having an identical pair of Kimbers is a bragging right.

Personally, I'd rather not have duplicates of anything. though I DO have a pair of Ruger new vaqueros, I don't consider that a bragging right. I'm almost embarassed that I have a pair, but for CAS, you need two.

Get the Ruger before they take away SSE! The Kimber can be bought next year when funds allow. The Ruger probably not.

Yeah I agree. I would have to wait until the 31th of May to start drosing for another handgun. Just pick up the Sig P220 Equinox 2 weeks ago. Of the 3 guns that I really want to get before year end, this Ruger ranks 3rd.

While I am an unabashed Kimber lover, in this case I would suggest for you to get the Ruger.

+1. I love Kimber, but I don't see the point in having matching Pro Carry IIs.
