So here is the deal, I am going back home for a week and we be picking up one of the 2 xds I have paid for at my LGS. So should I pick up first the 9mm or the 45acp ????

I love both. I have a G26 (9mm) on me as I type this, I have a Sig 220 compact (45) and a S&W Shield 9 (9mm obviously) on my desk, and lots more goodies in the safe and at a smith. I chose 45 just because I reload 45

I appreciate 9mm because it is so much more controllable and easier to shoot more accurately for me. Also "modern" ammo such as Federal HST and Winchester Ranger T have really brought it up to par compared to other calibers.

I appreciate 45 because it makes big holes and is softer shooting than 40, 357 SIG, or 10mm. 45 is also naturally subsonic and a suppressors best friend in other states where our rights are actually upheld.

I keep my SP-01 Phantom and my USP 45 close when I sleep, and if I woke up in a grog I would feel comfortable grabbing either to defend myself with. You can't go wrong with either and both have their pros and cons. If it were 1980, I would say 45 is a no brainer. But nowadays either is a great choice...hell modern .380 ACP defense loads are doing what the big boys were doing 20 years ago.

45 should only be shot out of 1911's. Only as The Lord decreed. Get the 9mm (which is ok to shoot on any platform) first then sell the 45 version and buy a 1911. Go to confession this weekend and ask forgiveness for your sin.

Very few serious shooters use XD's. They're mostly in the collector/enthusiast world. Take a pistol class, go to a USPSA match, see what the top trainers are shooting. You won't many see XD's. No military and very few police outside Croatia use them.



It's a Glock and M&P 9mm world out there.

That has way more to do with the fact that they don't do aftermarket parts and only now are you seeing guys like Powder River doing stuff. Also the trigger pull and reset is looooong but it isn't on the XDs which trigger is short like Glock. Glock is on every cops hip because of their LEO program. It's about price. Glock is a fine weapon and M&P isn't shabby either. Just saying XD is fine as well and stands on it's own without having to serve kool-aid.
