OP, thank you for posting, you did fine. You stated everything perfectly.
Some jerks are after post count, some are just to smart for their own good and some are lacking a personal life and hide behind a computer to poke and jab people.
My problem with all the crap they sell is, much of it doesn't work or has to be modified to make it work. The Mosin nagant has all kinds of stuff for it that I paid good money for that was useless. The compensator that slips over the barrel of the 91/30 and secured with screws. An accident waiting to happen. The rubber butt pad, not all stocks butts are the same and you have to really try to make it work. Scope mounts, an impossible task to get one of those to stay secure.
Again, your point is taken. I suggest to people before buying neat things for their guns to do research and read reviews before forking out a lot of money.

America, and therefore Capitalism thrive on gimmicks and accessories. If you own a gun store, margins on guns suck, you make your margins on gimmicks and accessories. Every other hobby and industry in the world is the same way, I just outfitted myself for extended backpacking. The amount of items you need to just survive in the wilderness for a couple of weeks? Insane. Being an old geezer too, I am paying a LOT of extra money trying to hold down the weight as well, I am paying much more for much less, so to speak.

Nobody holds a gun, so to speak, to anyone's head, making them buy all of these gimmicks. Buy what you (think) you need. If you like it, keep it. If not, sell it at a slight loss. Big whoop.

Reloading? Don't even get me started, reloading is gimmick Nirvana. Nobody who hates accessories and gimmicks gets into reloading because that is all that reloading is, a cascading series of accessories and gimmicks for small scale manufacturing.
