OP, when you dry firing your M&P, do you notice your front sight moves right after your trigger breaks? I get this most of the time when I relax my support hand. Firm up your support hand and relax your trigger hand next time on the range. Also ask a range officer to test your M&P like other posters have mentioned.

Shooting on a sandbag does not guarantee accuracy assessment. There are still many other contributing variables.

I hope you will come to a resolution. The M&P's are great handguns.

actually do have a bad habit of pulling the gun right when I'm squeezing the trigger and not paying attention to grip. so it's not unusual for me to shoot about a half inch right or so.

partially the reason I was surprised to see how far left some of the rounds went

        Just stick with your XD.

From ten yards, an error can become significant. A slight move of the muzzle will exacerbate to a significant shift in your POI in ten yards. Just think of a cone shape.

My old m&p seemed to not be very accurate either.

              Just checking the obvious...
check the barrel crown for any ding.
check if the barrel lock up if it is nice and tight.
check if your sights are wiggly.

I agree though, the M&P has a more comfortable grip that the XD and Glock. I have only rented the M&P a couple of times and can not get a 10 shot group I was happy with. I simply deduce the M&P is not for me.

Thanks. All that looks good. Though I wonder why the left rear dot is yellow.

The grip is why my wife picked the M&P over the XD. My XD is too big for her hands (though she still does decently with it.)

I would leave the sights for now, it does not need to be perfectly centered.

The gun should group regardless of precision, that should be addressed first.
It if will not group, you will never get precision...good luck.

It might not just be you... The older M&P 9's have a fairly known issue with accuracy and you can find a decent amount of info with a google search. I believe it's due to the barrel not having a tight enough fit with the slide. G&R tactical found a solution by offering hand fitted storm lake barrels to each specific gun. It's roughly a $200 fix but people over at the other forum reported improved accuracy with the new barrel...

I would say its you not the gun...change your sight picture and adjust your grip accordingly...my m&p9c shoots wherever i want it to, or atleast prettyclose...ive only put about 700 rounds through it so i need lots of practice still...i think you do too

The best way to trouble shoot this like the others have mentioned is have a more experienced shooter give it a go with the same ammo. If they have the same issues contact S&W, if not you need someone experienced to watch you shoot to help identify the issues and coach you through the solution. I know it doesnt help you out but Ive owned 3 M&P's and can routinely hit steel at 100 yards unsupported with it. Below is the first 10 or 20 (cant remember)rounds with my Pro at ≈10 yards. Yes its a little low but any issues with the placement was my fault not the gun.

I'll ask the range safety officer to give it a go next time we're out.

Usually when we get a new handgun, we can just shoot from the sandbags and figure out 'how it shoots' pretty quickly. This one is a head scratcher.

I hated the way I was shooting my M&P when I first got it. I could have swore something was wrong with it.

I decided to get some new sights and see if I was just not meshing well with the factory three dots.

Low and behold...I am now shooting amazingly well with the new Ameriglo i-dot sights.

I agree that the factory sights on all M&P's are crap. I was used to shooting Sigs and H&K's, they made my VTAC seem like a hi-point and not a gun that cost me around a grand.

Most people have their own unique preferences for sights, so seems like a lot of mfgs just put 'something' on new guns, expecting customers will be buying their own anyway. I don't want to pay extra for fancy sights on a new gun unless they ask me ahead of time
