    m&p 9mm accuracy issues

Our, stovepiping issues cleared up after about 50 more rounds... but the gun remains fairly inaccurate.

The wife was only able to get 2 rounds on a 7-inch target at 10 yards.

I put it on sand bags and I could get 3 out of 5 on a 7-inch target and they seemed placed randomly.

Tried aguilar pmc wwb and light handloads.

Total round count around 300. from what I can tell it shooting occasionally 7 to 8 inches left but not with any good consistency.

does this gun need an extended break in or should we be calling up Smith and Wesson?

Not trying to insult you, but if you are sure it's not user error, check to make sure your sights are aligned properly. You should not need a break in period for an M&P. Mine M&P40 is the gun I am most accurate with.

Next time you go to the range, have someone else shoot it, and if it does the same thing, contact S&W.

Two of us so far. We are both pretty good with my XD which has nearly the same sights.

But even so I'd expect a consistent grouping using a consistent target off sandbags i think

Does it have the revised barrel with the faster twist?

I agree. Sounds like an operator issue and not the M&P. Perhaps have someone like a rangemaster give it a go to see if the issues persist before contacting S&W. Good luck!

I have an M&P 9FS and it has been accurate out of the box.

I'd try at least a couple of different brands/weights of ammo before anything else, but a new M&P should do a lot better than that.

Before anyone comments more on accuracy, 10 yards is not enough distance to establish an "accurate" gun - especially the M&P given it's track record.

With that being said, I can routinely put 10 rounds inside 1.5" at 7 yards, ~2 inches at 15 yards and ~3.5" at 25 yards.

2meterB, go back out and shoot for groups at 25 yards and post the results.

will S&W exchange the older (inaccurate) barrels for the new?

                    Doubtful.

In S&W's opinion, the accuracy "problems" that people have reported are not out of what was expected.

However, their expectations (to my knowledge) have never been made public. To them, 5-6 inches at 25 yards is probably fine.

edit: actually, I'm unsure. If you have a gun with accuracy problems you can try contacting them, but from reports on many other forums they'll look at the gun and send it back with seemingly nothing done and say "it looks good to us".

Took all 3 of my pistols to the range last week and the M&P is by far less accurate for me.

The M&P is the 9c, the other 2 are full size. Could be something there. My 40 Equinox is very accurate. 1911 45 is fairly accurate. I know some of it is my experience but to have 1 model be that much different seems off.

Bought the M&P as a carry but will sell it when I find a better one. Hopefully here on this board.....

It could be that the gun just doesn't fit you. I shoot Glocks worse than any of my other guns.

Just out of curiosity. Have you tried testing the accuracy with the pistol rested on a bench or another stabilizing device/setup .

Edit: I saw that you placed it on sandbags. Hope you figure it out.

Fair point. I've assumed it's just me. Oddly though the pistol that fits (feels) best, my 1911, isn't the pistol I shoot best. If my Equinox didn't have a huge handle I'd carry it.
