New to california. Active duty military. Quick question

Can I build an ar15 pistol here? Do I need some sort of license. Do I need the bullet button?

        I know what you mean.

Keep in mind your are now in CA and we have some stupid laws.

While building an AR style pistol is legal you have to keep in mind there are other laws you must follow.

The AR style pistol you are building is not on the CA roster of safe handguns. So, you will need to build it in a roster exempt manner and than convert it to semi auto.

I recommend you get a magwell block for your build. It looks like this:

It will assist in the building of your AR style pistol and come in handy for the Single Shot Exempt pistol that your need to build.

        So, on to getting started.

First, seeing as you have PCS to CA under Federal Law you are a CA resident for the purpose of buying firearms. What does that mean to you? Well you can not just buy an AR low from your LGS and build an AR style pistol. You will need to buy an 80% lower and finish it yourself.

Now you are ready to put your pistol together. Install your buffer tube and LPK. Next install your magazine lock; I prefer the Bullet Button. After you install your magazine lock take your magwell block and put that in the magwell. Now attach your less than 16" upper.

Congratulations you have just built your Roster Exempt Single Shot AR Style pistol.

Now you may take the next 3 to 5 seconds and convert your pistol to semi auto.

To convert you pistol use a tool; like a bullet tip, to remove your magwell block. Now insert a 10 round or less magazine into the magwell.

Congratulations you have just converted your pistol to semi auto.

Have fun and enjoy your new weapon.
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Follow morrcarr67's advice and you'll be 100% legal. Especially the part about starting with an 80% lower.
