    sig P227 known problems/issues?

does anyone know of any issues or problems with the p227? i am considering buying one but I'm not too sure if i should hold off until its been "proven". from everything i have read i was only able to find one or two people reporting an issue with their p227. all other reviews have been good. from what i am reading, it seems that sig did a good job with the p227.

Last year, the Indiana State Police adopted the .45ACP SIG P-227 as it's new standard issue sidearm, it is replacing the 9x19mm Glock 17.

I have one. Took some time to get used to the sights (even though I have the same sights on my 226), but I love the gun. Last month I fed it around 300 rounds of cheap steel case tulammo after less than 60 brass cased rounds. Not a single issue so far.

It can't really have problems, because it uses the P220 top end.

Shopping around for some 45s and I kinda narrowed it down to:

            P220 Elite
            P227 Elite
            &
HK45 - I pretty much have my mind set on this one but anything can happen.

If possible can you post the grip size of the P220 and P227 if anyone own one or both? I heard the P227 is very beefy which has turned me off on it.

TomT, the 227 is only slightly larger than the 226. And its only larger in the grip circumfuerence.

I could be wrong ... P220 is single stack and P227 is double stack so P220 has thinner grip than P227.

I've had my P227 for a couple of months now. It is now my go-to self defense gun. The handling and feel are very similar to the 226, however as others have mentioned the grip is slightly fatter around the middle.

I actually shot it very naturally the first time I picked it up, but wanted to run several hundred rounds through, including SD/HD ammo, before making the switch. Everything went perfectly and I feel very secure having it nearby. 10 rounds of of .45 in a standard length grip is definitely a winner in my book (especially in California).

I've seen some pictures, and the P220's grip is much smaller than the P226 which I consider a bit large.

does anyone know what holsters or mag carriers Indiana state police are using? i plan to carry this weapon for work (armed security) and i can't seem to find any info on the holsters or mag carriers. safariland gear i would prefer. I'm pretty sure it will fit in the 6280 holster however i have heard of one issue with the 6360 holster where the weapon was stuck.

1SAM, are you looking for open or concealed? My open holster (Mike's Tactical) kydex from my 226 fits my 227. I just had to open the friction screws up a bit. No retention straps on those though.

i am looking for open. i know the safari land 6280 holster will work with the p227

my main concern is the magazine holder. i am coming from a glock 21sf. I'm pretty sure the magazines are similar in size to the glock 21 but I'm not sure (maybe someone can measure?) i have read that the p250 magazines are identical to the p227, with the exception of the baseplates. so if i can find a mag carrier made by safariland that will fit the p250 mags then i will be set. i wonder how big the p250/p227 mags compare in size to the usp 45 mags?

All p220 and p226 holsters are supposed to work.
