Need help rationalizing another gun purchase!! (Update: Bought it!)

Help me rationalize buying a M&P when I already have a Glock.
I've shot both, I liked both, I was going to buy a M&P, but the cost of mags drove me towards Glock.
I really like my Glock and even picked up a second one, BUT.... with the M&P falling off the roster, I'm contemplating just picking one up.
I'm just finding it hard to justify since I can't think of a specific purpose or role for it to fill. The Glock already does anything and everything I would use the M&P for.

Right now I'm telling myself that "I should get the M&P so when my left handed father and friends come out they'll have something to shoot..."

yup, that's all I've got, help me out here.

Update: I went ahead and ordered it. Bottom line, it doesn't hurt to have both. Plus, I knew if I waited till it fell off roster I'd just regret it. Thanks for all the input all. I really was having a difficult time convincing myself on this one

Get the M&P to accompany your Glock. Owning two solid polymer pistols makes allot of sense. Plus if you don't buy the M&P while you had the chance, you know you will probably regret it down the line.

If you have to have a specific "need"; buy the M&P because when SHTF two guns are better than one. You have redundancy if one breaks.

You mean you're only gonna get 1 M&P? Why not 6! One in each caliber and frame size

I always saw the M&P as a fancy Glock. It's got interchangeable backstraps and some fancier machining done to the slide. It feels pretty different than the Glock. You can justify the purchase by getting it in a different caliber than whatever your glocks are chambered in....also owning and shooting different pistols can help you become a better rounded shooter. If you only shoot Glocks you'll have a little bit of a harder time adjusting to other pistols. If you have a Glock, an M&P, an XD, a Sig, a Revolver, a 1911, well, you see where I'm going with this. You'll improve your overall handgunning skills by shooting different kinds of pistols.

If you want it, get it.

You may not have another chance for a long while.

You need to own a fullsize 9 from each company in order to truly know which one is your fav

You can always sell one later....

I bought an M&P in 9mm to try one out. While the M&P is a nice handgun, it's not as nice as the Glock in my opinion. The extra grip panels make the gun very adjustable but I don't like the sights and the trigger (as noted everywhere on the internet) is so-so at best. The rails are a good idea but my Glock doesn't have one so it's not a huge advantage for me.

Overall, it's a Glock-like handgun option for those who don't care for Glocks. I like my Glock so, I'll be selling my M&P.

I am also somewhat interested in the M&P, what is up with that weird take down tool? M&P field stripping seems pretty complicated can someone explain to me what exactly is the process and why do we need a tool to take it down?

I don't think you need a tool to take it down. The tool is there so you don't have to pull the trigger if you don't want to. Otherwise you can still pull the trigger and disassemble it without any hassle.

If you are able to buy it, go for it. You may still be able to find a used one after it falls off the roster though...

My M&P is my favorite shooter in the stable since having the Duty trigger kit installed (went with the polymer trigger) and Ameriglo sights installed. I really love those Ameriglo I-Dot sights.

I was a big time Glock shooter but I recently converted to M&P. The ergos are much better for me and the grip angle is more aligned with 1911's which I shoot as well. The trigger on the newer M&P is much better from the older ones. The trigger weight is similar to the Glocks I've owned and there is now a distinct reset. The M&P has a shorter trigger reach which lends itself to better trigger control. The stock sights on the M&P is made of metal and are the three dot variety which in my opinion are much better than the Glock plastic sights with the ball in basket style. The M&P is great for lefties since it has ambidextrous controls. Field stripping is as easy as the Glocks. I don't use the take down tool at all. I just lock the slide back, turn down the take down lever, release the slide, pull the trigger and take the slide off. Like my kids say, "easy, peasy". I already got the Fullsize and the Compact and next week I plan on getting another Fullsize and the Shield. This is just my opinion.

If you're buying because you're an enthusiast and want another gun, then buy it.

If you're buying for a specific purpose and already have 2 guns that fill that need, then don't buy it.
