CA version Shield looks to have arrived in quantity this past week. Try Turners, it's in the weekly ad for $440, and it say in stock now.

Considering sse in 2014, the XD-S might be a good choice right now.
I am contempt with my XDSC9, but I do not think it's going off roster.

Well, not sure how this thread took a little turn to Glock, but I agree that the recoil/flip with the XD is less. I also have a G19 & XD9 4" / G23C & XD40-V10 / G30 & XD45 compact. In my hands, the weight difference negates recoil/flip more than bore axis difference between the comparable models. Taking both down to only the frame and barrel, it's not that much difference in bore axis (maybe the tapered slide makes it look taller, but it is more top heavy). Maybe there are other factors (back-strap width, I do not know either). Does that mean the XD is better, absolutely not, there are pros/cons to both.

When drawing from the holster in a SD situation, your natural grip will engage the grip safety without having to think about it. I prefer it to a manual safety, such as on the Shield.
Nope, that's exactly why I chose the safety system on my XD over others. Every part of it, holstering, un-holstering, firing, is very intuitive and seems as safe as I prefer it to be, without being obtrusive.

I also like that my bedside gun, an XD9 tac with a TLR-1 doesn't require a press-check at night, in the few instances that I've had to pull it out, when I can't see anyways due to having a very low-profile LCI and cocked indicator.

Damn, that's my luck. For a month and a half I shopped around at every gun shop in town I went to gun shows and NO SHIELD! I was told "those are hard to find right now" and the minute I buy the XD a bunch of shields show up at Turners. Good thing is I've fallen in love with the XD so it's all good.
        Thanks for the info.

Great gun, reliable, low maintenance, & uglier than a Glock

Aside from Hi Point pistols, nothing is uglier than a Glock.

It's okay, recoil is manageable. Trigger is creepy though.

We have two in this household, as well as a 4" all in 9mm.

I loved everyone I have shot a couple had trigger jobs on them as well and all used for EDC. I have a service xd9 and I love that one funny thing is I can shoot better with a sc than I can with my own service 9. I have so many different pistols that the triggers are not an issue as I will adapt to the trigger regardless how stiff or soft it may be reset was not an issue with me either. I am not that picky about my pistols as I stated before none of my pistols have the same trigger and they all reset differently.
