In a more "just society" i would just pocket a box of self defense rounds and walk out if they continue to insist on their illegal position. Don't have time for this type o bs no mo!

Nobody is "running whining to the state", OP was charged too much. He's the only person in all of California paying more than $35 for PPT. Why should he suck that up. That's a box of ammo right there. Would you go into any store, hand the clerk $20 and walk away without getting anything for it? Probably not.

You do make a good point and the same thought had crossed my mind.

The state is the main culprit here.

However that doesn't mean crooked businesses should take advantage of a criminal state law to shaft the people. Otherwise crooked businesses would have the state to pass more criminal laws to extort the people....wait...they already do.

This happens because government has too much power. Businesses are just doing what's natural.

Send a letter to the CADOJ with a copy of the receipt and the relevant PC citation, and be sure to CC: the gun store. FFLs that do this need to be slapped down hard. If they don't like the fact that they are required to do it, and that the max fee is $10 over the DROS fee, then they need to relinquish their FFL and go open a Quickie Mart instead.

"Going to the DOJ" is the only threat the buyer can make that the shop might take seriously. The shop has his money, his gun, and his balls in a sling. He should be happy about it?

I wouldn't have outed the FFL until after I picked up the gun and presented them with the PC and then seen what their response is. As others have said if, after that, they don't refund your money report them to the DOJ.

Please let us know what the outcome is.

OP, as others have said, wait until you have the firearm in hand, then hit 'em with a copy of the code and demand a refund. Be ready to back up the demand by dropping the dime on them to DOJ. Dealers supported the PPT requirement, if they can't abide by the provisions they can go into the grocery business instead.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I have no problem outing them now, because they already ripped me off. On top of that I told them it was a set fee of $35, and they argued with me and stuck to their bull crap.
They can make it right when I go to pick it up, but they still did the deed. Who knows how many other ppl they have done this to.

I have already printed out the PC reference, and the DOJ contact info to bring in when I pick it up.

I will let you all know the outcome when I go in.
The other thing that bothers me is even if they admit their stupidity and refund me the money, how many un-knowing ppl are they going to still rip off.

You don't have to buy the lock there, you have to provide a lock at the time of picking up with a receipt showing that the lock has been purchased in the past 30 days per the gun shops that I do PPT at.
