S&W 5906?

Talk about a "blast from the past".
I still have a S&W 559.
First handgun I ever bought.

Built like a tank is the right description. I still have my first S&W 6904, bought brand new in '96. Not that it needed replacement, but I recently purchased a lighter Wolff hammer and recoil springs, and it made the pistol more comfortable to shoot.

But now that we're close to becoming "shall issue", this is actually making me think hard. For my little stature, its very hard to conceal this gun. I dont know if I should sell it, and get one of those single stack poly lowered pistols. I'm eyeing on the shield, LC9 or CW9 pistols.

I still have my 4506, but sold my 5906 along time ago. I wish I had kept it. Great gun, great shooter, but it was a little heavy. If I had to do it over it would still be in my safe.

Relatively common that these guns come up for consignment at local gun shops. Oftentimes they lay about for extended time because all the "kool kidz" want Glocks and Sigs and XDs yada yada yada.

I've picked up all my 3rd Gen S&Ws, used, for $400ish or less. I think I got the 915 for $300ish.

BTW, I used to have a prejudice against S&W autos due to 2nd Gen 645 I had (mid 80s "British-owned" production) - didn't like that gun, got rid of it - only wanted to feed 230grFMJs and had 'barn door' accuracy.

Get one while it's easy to get. I've had my 5906 since the early 90s. Won it from Golden Gate Championship. My 5906 and 6906 have been very reliable, more than accurate for SD/HD purposes, and just darn good lookin'.

Which got sold to fund another mossberg pump

I regret the whole thing and want the 5903 back.

My 6906... Such a great trigger.. As you can see, it gets plenty of range time...

The 5906 is one of my all time favorite 9 mm pistol. Just my bad luck that I didn't have the money to buy one when they first came out around mid 1980's.

It was my FIRST experience with the 9 mm.

S&W 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation autos are all underrated, IMO. Very reliable, workhorse type guns. Had a 459 and 59 and just outstanding pistols.

I have the 1006 and it rocks! As everyone says, you can't go wrong with the S&W 3rd gens.

A 5906 (with the square trigger guard) was my first handgun purchase back in '89 or '90. I sold it to buy a .22 and while I still have and love that .22 I wish I could have kept the Smith...so I recently replaced it with another 5906 and a 5903TSW You'd not regret any of the 3rd gen Smiths. Rock solid dependable and the all stainless models are just rock heavy...in a good way.
