Ever carried a G17 then a G19 then a G26 or comparable glocks? Grip length makes a big difference when carrying concealed while the slide length doesn't make much of a difference.

You can also chop it down yourself. I chopped two of mine down. Didn't cost me a dime. Was it as neat as if Bowie Tactical did it? No. Did it accomplish my goal? Yes. Does the look of the gun matter? Not when it's a Glock and will most likely be used for concealed carry.

Another reason for the chop is ability to interchange the mags. I have a lot of preban 19 mags but only a few 17 mags.

Save yourself the trouble, just get a Glock 19.

I'm considering buying a 17 specifically to cut down to 19. Firstly, I want to buy another Glock and I like the longer barrel of the 17 but I want the same grip length as the 19. If it's too risky I'll buy just another 19.

I'd love to see more pics of it done successfully.

              Don't do it. Buy a G19.

I am the evil person referenced above who had their glock 22 cut down to 27 grip length. It's not too bad, I e carried it for about 18 months, IWB typically with a 9 round 27 mag with a plus two bottom. It's a nice short grip under a t shirt and I'm 6'5" so the extra inch of slide isn't the end of the world.

Carrying a lighter gun is so much comfortable. I've always liked steel guns myself, but a Glock or M&P is so much more comfortable to carry. Yeah having the right holster for carrying helps, but light is always a plus. I have a G23 and G27 in which the latter gets carried more.

That's the hard way- it's not a straight swap.

You still need to buy a conversion barrel (lone wolf sells one) and a dust cover (Also sold by lone wolf) for the GLock 17 slide to fit the 19 frame.

Not mine. But I would consider doing it like this.

I don't carry my G21s, granted it is thicker than the G17. I sometimes carry a G19, but most of the time, I carry a Sig P220. Though I haven't had problems concealing both, I find that frame width is more important to me than the grip length. YMMV

No disagreement there. I just got a M&P 45c and will try that out. Without mags, the M&P 45c comes in 4 oz lighter than my full size 220.

OP, I think the XD-S 4.0 was designed specifically for people like you. Long slide, short grip.
