Need 1911 advice.

Hey guys!!! I currently have a Sig Sauer Tac Ops 1911 5 in barrel. I am debating selling that gun and buying a RIA tactical full size 1911. What do you guys think? Sell the Tac Ops 1911 and buy the RIA tactical? Or keep the Sig Tac Ops? Another possibility may be buying the Springfield Loaded 1911 over the RIA Tactical. Final choice may be to just say the hell with it and keep the Sig Tac Ops and just buy the RIA tactical. After all, you can never have too many 1911's. Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Nothing wrong with ria. I own one and it feels solid. Very accurate too. Why do you need to spend 3x+ on the same platform for what? .5" better groups and a better finish? If you want a trophy go ahead and spend the extra money. They sure are really nice. I guess im not a 1911 guy. I have one and it is just another pistol. I personally would not spend over 1k on a 1911 but thats just me. I say sell the sig and buy the ria + some ammo

The biggest thing to know here is, "Why?"

What would be your reasons for essentially moving from one 1911 to another? I think knowing your reasoning behind such a move would greatly help us form an opinion.

I'm no expert, but I strongly support the idea of having more guns: at worst, you can resell either, or both, and try to fund something else you really want after comparing the two.

There is nothing wrong with the Tac Ops. It is extremely accurate and have not had any malfunctions. It is just that it is not your standard 1911 profile. It is a bit wider than most 1911's and it is difficult to find holsters for it. Besides, with what I can sell the Sig for, I can still buy the RIA tactical and have about $200 left over for a good holster, grips and ammo.

Unless there's something missing from the Tacops that you'd find in getting a RIA, I'd keep the Tacops. I have a Sig Stainless Railed and it's fun to shoot. I had some FTF issues at first, but I sent it in and changed out the spring guide to an EGW and Wolff springs. Hasn't malfunctioned after that. I took her out today and it was great.

You could always get the RIA and decide to sell/keep the Tacops after.

Sig over Ria anyday. I have both and would keep my Sig. Better resale value and better fit and finish. Like having a Cadilac and going to Civic. Or save up for a Baer, Wilson, Brown etc.

Don't sell. Especially if it's a gun you like. Only buy. Buy the RIA. You'll love it. I love mine.

Eh, I'd keep the sig. Do you need the holster for carry or something? I dunno going from a sig to the rock island would be a definite downgrade. If your really wanna get rid of the sig for a more traditional profile 1911 just sell it and buy one. Or trade for one!

What's the deal with the holster issue? Are you going to be LTC concealed? If so, any full sized 1911 isn't really a great choice. If you disagree, try carrying one in shorts and t-shirt without printing big time. They aren't exactly light either.

If your real purpose with the 1911 is range use and SD/HD, then all of the above are good choices. If it is for concealed carry, none of them are.

Basic math tells you that anytime you sell a gun (with exceptions for collector's value, not applicable here) you lose money.

Personally, I could see making a more lateral trade (quality-wise) from the SIG to the Springfield, but not what I'd consider a downward move to the RIA.

IMO, right now SIG 1911s may just be the best bang for the buck. Fit, finish and function are all quite good and he pricing is still right. If it was me, I'd keep the SIG, and start patiently saving up for another 1911 equal to or better than the SIG.

I'd keep the sig for sure and although budget, nothing wrong with the RIA.

Agreed. I have an RIA, it's excellent. And I'm a Sig fan (P226)

So you want to trade down from the ribeye, for a dollar menu cheeseburger, eh?

Keep the Sig, pinch some pennies, and pick up the RIA when you can. NOTHING wrong with an RIA (I'm looking at getting a tactical, as another truck gun), but I sure wouldn't trade the Sig for it, unless I was strapped for the cash difference you'd BETTER be getting for such a trade.

I was kind of thinking the same thing.

OP, have you compared the RIA at the range side by side with your sig?
