Loading a new 9mm magazine

The magazine loaders definitely help make things easier and speed things up but they're not necessary... and paying $30 for a magazine loader? Uhh... ok.

It's all in the technique, not really your strength, and keeping the cartridge from slipping off the side of the cartridge below it. No doubt being stronger can help, though. I'm right-handed so I'll grab the mag left hand and push it against the table or my stomach, grab a cartridge between my thumb and index finger, then angle the round at about 15* or so depending on the magazine, get the back of it between the feed lips, then level it out and push it in all the way. It takes some practice but there may be a time that you forget a magazine loader. In fact, I forgot one for the 92FS yesterday when I went to the Field Time range in Stanton last night.

I certainly can load without the Uplula, but with it, I can reload much, much faster so I have more time for actually shooting when at the range.

Shoulda bought a Glock, they come with mag loaders.

They sure do! It's a pretty basic one without a lever but they work really well. I actually prefer them without a lever - feels sturdier and one less thing to potentially break.

I use an Uplula, but I never try and pronounce it out loud.

I will only accept mocking from anyone that doesn't use a TV remote.


OP, our springs will soften up after you cycle some magazines. How many? Probably quite a few. I think I went through 600 - 1000 rounds before my full-size M&P softened up... they were harsh as hell and I have loaded a few magazines in my time.

I am so glad I found this thread. I've been loading and shooting my 1911 and SW 669 and never had a problem. Then, I just got a SW MP .40 Shield and DAMNNN. Am I getting old? Weak? Spastic? I can't believe how hard it is to load those darn 6-7 round mags. UpLULA is being bought tomorrow!!

Man, my SigPro only came w/ one mag (New in Box - and I mean carboard box) - those mags ain't cheap.

sucks for you if you don't want to afford a uplula...i use both sizes...
