    Ruger MK II

I have been thinking about getting a 22lr pistol to add as a cheap plinker and fun gun to shoot. Is there anything that I should look for or be aware of when buying a used MK II? I found these 2 but do not have a price on them yet:

    &

What is a fair price for one of these?

Check the online gun auction houses to get an average price. The last 2 Rugers I purchased were Government Target Models and I paid an average of $400.00 each.

Ruger Mark IIs are getting expensive. Nobody wants the government required addons (lock, loaded chamber indicator) on the new Mark IIIs, which is driving up the prices on the IIs. Better hurry though, looks like the old Mark II models fall off the California list in December.

My bull barrreled Mark IIs were the most accurate (non Olympic) .22 pistols I had.

Looks like that bottom pic might be a Government model. Check to see if it is, and if it turn out to be one, depending on the sellers asking price, might be one to consider!

Do either of the guns come with the box? If they do, might check to see if the Ruger target is included with that Government model. All Govt models were proof fired before leaving the factory. Here is the proof target that came with my blued Mark II..the one I use for Bullseye.

Ruger Mark II's are great firearms. They are extremely upgradeable. Mine has a trigger that has no creep and is just at 2 pounds.

I just picked up a stainless gov't model mkII on consignment for $329 in very good condition. It is a common enough gun that you might find one locally. The gov't model marked ones were laser sighted at the factory as a semi-marksmanship trainer option.

Get a stainless one you wont regret it! You wont regret getting most rugers! Especially their .22 hand guns and rifles!

Thanks for all the replies. I have a couple 10/22's that I like and figured a 22lr handgun couldn't hurt. I was mistaken though as these are the two for sale, I updated the pics in the frst post:

The one with the target grips has a longer barrel.

Bobshouse, who makes the grips on your bowling pin & bullseye gun. I've been looking for a better grip than the Volquartsen plastic & 10 Ring Precision
                grips that I currently have.

They are manufactured by Altamont at http://www.altamontco.com/products/p...uger/mark2.php

                  There distributor is http://www.handgungrips.com/model.cf...handgun%20grip

They are the Ultima Target grips, listed about halfway down the page. Listed for $50.00 a set.

I've been having a hard time getting another pair, seems Altamont is having trouble with their setup and are way behind in their manufacture of the Ultima Target grips.

Mike, check that longer barreled model and see if it says "Government Target Model" on the side. Sure looks like one. If it is, and you could get it for a decent price, you could probably clean it up and get alot of enjoyment out of it. They will hold their resale value, and as I said before the going prices for those seem to be around $350.00 to $450.00.

Definately looks like they need some TLC. The clips and gun inards can be replaced, and if necessary there are several places that will refinish the pistol.

                          It's fine...not a pistol grip!

That 10 inch barrel stuck out there like a pole, had to do something with it. Eventually, Im going to put a handgun scope on it (once I get it drilled/tapped).

Actually thinking of redoing the forearm and making it about 2 inches longer.

better re-read the assault pistols section of sb-23

                            (4) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
                            (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
                            (B) A second handgrip.
                            (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
                            (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

looks like a handgrip to me i dont know of any other purpose to have a wood forearm dont see any part of the law that says pistol style grasp

and it does partially encircle the barrel when if hot would prevent you from being burned but does not look very shroud like so you may have me there

i haven't seen a browning with handguard for sale and a contender is not autoloading

A forearm is not a secondary grip. It doesn't meet the definition of "a grip that allows a pistol type grasp" forward of the trigger.

I doesn't protect me from heat, nor shroud the barrel.

I guess I'll share my cell with all the Browning Buckmark and Contender owners in California.
