.32ACP pistols

Just tried to find one, like Beretta Tomcat, and found that nobody has them in stock. While Beretta seemingly still makes them, promised by FFL wait times are in several months range. Is it a new shortage or what?

It's not really a shortage. There just isn't a lot of demand for them, so they don't make many.

Kel- tec makes one, but it's even harder to find here since its off roster.

Once upon a time, 32 ACP was the most popular pistol caliber made. And Wikipedia says that even to this day, there have been more pistols made in 32 ACP than any other caliber. But nowadays, it's not a popular caliber and there are not many pistols made in it. If you're buying new, I'd get a 9mm. And if you really want a 32, buy a used older pistol and shoot it occasionally. And remember, 32 ACP ammo is roughly 50% more expensive than 9mm.

I have a WWI vintage Izarra that my father brought back after WWII and it's fun to shoot, but it's really just a curio.

I would be curious to find out the sales volume figures for the .32 acp.

Before the recent wave of 9mm compacts came to market, LC9, Keltec, etc, the only way to find a smaller gun was in a minor caliber.

I dot know if the wider availability of CCW in the us pushed up the sales of the tomcat or if people opted to go with a major caliber.

Maybe see if u can find a Walther PP or PPK at a gunshow or lgs,, they are not manufactured anymore but there was a huge influx of the pistols from Europe when Law Enforcement traded them in for larger calibers. I own several of these ex police guns and they are a joy to shoot.

You have that backwards. LWS32 (CA Edition) is on the roster, LWS38 is not.

Tomcats come up on the classifieds here fairly often. Bet you a nickel there's one in your area right now. That is......if you don't mind "used" pistols.

Well, all my pistols are 9mm except one. That one is a .32ACP Walther Model 4. So I'd like to have a complement to it to share ammo.

Besides, even compared to LC9 and such, .32 are smaller, handier and easier to conceal.

Well, I've got my Walther used. It took the services of arguably the best gunsmith in the state to bring it back to life. But, that Walther issued in 1920 was more a piece of history to me than anything. I doubt I'd go the same length for something like fairly recent Beretta...

That really depends on where you shop. I get 7.65 ammo for less than 9mm. You just have to buy when it's in stock.

I buy the Privi Partisan .32 for my Walthers,, around $14 a box last time I got some,, the Walthers love it, both PP and PPK.
