Thank you guys again! Love all of the advice and gun recommendations..

Some info from my range time today....

Got to shoot the SR22 I had my eyes on... Nice gun, however, with the available ammo we used the gun failed to fire so many times it was not even funny. Not just with me, but with the firearms instructor as well. Not sure if it is this gun that is particularly picky with ammo but I was a little turned off by that.

The other gun I shot was some 9mm Glock... Can't remember the model but I will be finding out. Luckily the instructor didn't tell me it was a 9mm (in the moment I wasn't even thinking about the type of gun he handed me) so the recoil was not an issue at all. I know there are mixed feelings about Glocks but I am not ruling it out!

I think I am going to go with a 9mm... Just have to do all of the dirty work and find one I like. I'm ready to go to the range and rent some .22s and 9mms for practice.

(luckily I have Swedish hands, the Glock was a great fit grip wise )

Okay the distance in this pic is kind of embarrassing, but I'm okay with it

Seems like your on your way to eventually find your firearm OP! Happy for you! keep shooting, keep trying other guns.
Don't get discourage if the range gun fails here and there, from experience some of the guns for rent in some ranges they rarely clean/bad maintenance, that might be an issue for the failures. Keep notes and then research online on certain gun makes/model and keep posting here for suggestions and soon you'll find the Firearm that will fit you.

Great choice op. Do not under estimate the value of practicing at short distances.

Yes on my way, I'm hoping it is not going to be too long of a journey as I am anxious to be a gun owner!

Surprisingly the .22 that misfired was actually the instructors personal gun.. He was not happy let me tell you!

This emphasizes what several have commented on, that .22 are routinely unreliable. You might expect that was one of the better maintained guns you'll use and it still failed. Doesn't make it unsuitable for range practice. But don't depend on it for other purposes.

Sounds like you have a handle on ignoring fanboys and haters There are lots of good guns. Some of the fun is finding what works for you!

If you weren't scared off by recoil of the 9mm then that's a great caliber. My wife has dainty Spanish hands and she can manage the recoil of my 1911 just fine. Her favorite pistol is her girlfriends Browning HiPower followed by my Glock 19.

Glocks and M&P's are lighter 9mm guns. The heavier the gun, the better it will handle the recoil when shooting it.

You can also look into guns with more steel in them, but those also usually cost more in price (Sigs, CZ's, 1911's).

If anyone is wondering... Left the gun store today the owner of a new Glock 19

I also got to shoot some 9mm rounds and some .45s... Pretty sure I am a gun addict!

We were all wondering! Excellent choice... Can't go wrong with a G19. Congrats!

Can't say I approve of the gun you bought.

But, I'm happy you bought what you wanted and I'm happy to have you as a fellow gun owner.

                      Now go get some ammo.

                      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Glock 19 is a fantastic choice. Super easy to completely disassemble, maintain, clean, and a plethora of aftermarket parts are available for them.

Hey you can't please everyone huh? I know Glocks are a love/hate thing for sure!

Thanks for the ammo links guys!

Yes the dreaded 10 day wait.. Already have the date and time I can go in and pick it up (April 5th, 2:30pm)... Not that I'm eager or anything.

There are a lot of home defense round you can find, but it would be expensive to practice with though. Make sure you understand that finding 9mm practice ammo will be difficult.
I have been able to pick up Federal 100rd boxes pretty regularly at my local Wallyworlds (once or twice a month). But then I am stopping in regularly to try and get that mythical unicorn-like 22LR ammo.
