Ok. There are a couple of levels of fail here. Yes, a 9mm will penetrate plenty of wall. So will a .357, or for that matter any projectile capable of effectively putting down a threat. There has been some tests that show that the 5.56 round will penetrate a bit LESS than the standard defensive pistol Calibers, but even that will still go through some walls. Bottom line is many times "they" don't know what they're talking about. Best to listen to the real experts and accept that penetration through walls is a trade off for a bullet that will effectively put down the threat.

Ignore all of 'them' and do some research. There are lots of expert opinions (actual experts). Research a lot of them and decide what's best for your situation and what you decide the likely scenarios are. Meaning, your HD choice if you live on a farm will be different that if you live in a downtown condo.

Here's a novel idea. Use a good hollow point and DON'T MISS. You will significantly reduce the chance of a bullet making it through a wall. With a little luck and good shot placement the bullet might not even exit the BG and make it to the wall behind him.

I'm thinking if you actually ever have to shoot somebody in your home, you will have a lot bigger issues to ponder in the aftermath than if your round penetrated the drywall.
