I would treat 454 as I would 44 special - a stepchild of sorts. Get a 460 S&W to cover you bases in .454 caliber bullet (460 S&W, 454 Casull, 45 Long Colt), or get 500 S&W for the fun factor. Getting a dedicated 454 (which can shoot 45 LC if it's a revolver) is not optimal in many ways.

can't wait to bring her out. need to score some 45LC first... all i have is 360gn buffalo bore 460. $3/rd and im not sure i can make it through more than 1 cylinder lol.

I have Leupold 2.5-8x on all high powered revolvers. They can take serious abuse and I get to worry much more about the mounts than about the scopes. I've had some Leupold rings break, while the scope just took cosmetic beating. I call it "character."

If you happen to live near Bakersfield, maybe we can get together with our big boom sticks.
Advise--use foam earplugs inserted correctly, and then put on over the ear protection. The gummy tipped Hornady rounds are pretty hot loads. Everyone around you will feel the heat and concussion upon firing.
If you fire 45 Colt or 454 before firing 460 rounds, be sure and clean your cylinder well before firing any 460. If you don't, your cases will be hard to eject.
Also NEVER, AND I MEAN NEVER EVER LET YOUR FINGERS GET IN FRONT OF THE CYLINDER WHILE FIRING. If you do, a trip to the ER will immediately follow.
Google is your friend.
Don't mean to scare you, just be careful.
BTW Don't let your wife shoot 460's, just the 45Colt.

haha thanks fred... i have seen the pics :barf:

and i typically do wear foam under my electronic muffs turned up... i pretend i can hear better but i dont think its actually doing anything...
