    454 or 500

    Looking for new toy.
I really want black/blue which may limit my choices.
    What do you recommend ?
Raging Bull or S&W? or something else. Looking for 6" barrel
    Thanks!

I think if you want black/blue, your only option is the Taurus, right? I've never seen a S&W 500 in blue, or any S&W or Ruger 454. Be interested to see if one actually was out there.

Maybe check out a Super Redhawk in 480 Ruger.

i debated between calibers for awhile. i really wanted a 500 for bragging rights.... but since i dont reload yet, i chose 460 for versatility with 454 and 45lc.

        pick my 460v up tomorrow

I went with the 500. Probably end up getting a 460 too because it can shoot multiple rounds.

Can't go wrong with either one. Both extremely fun to shoot. And highly recommend you reload. These big high $$ rounds pay for the reload equipment in no time.

Check to see when they are dropping off the list. I have a .460 and .500 with 8 3/8" barrels. I picked up the .460 for cartridge versatility and the .500 because I can.

I choose the 460V as well a couple years ago. It fell off roster for a while and recently was put back on. Very, very versital cartridge even if you don't reload.
Taurus or Smith? I think you already know the answer.
Here is the only other finish over stainless I know of.

You can always pick up a Smith 500 in 6" half under lug and have it re finished. This is the 500 I would get, great balance.

I just picked up my 4" S&W 500. I was torn between the 5" 460 and 4" 500. I ended up with the 500 because I knew the gun was just going to be the occasional shooter. In this case why not go with the biggest and baddest ?! I know the .460 is probably a better round in penetration and its deff better in trajectory but I just wanted to be able to say this is the most powerful production handgun in the world. Feelin lucky punk?!

Love the 4" 500. No experience with the 460.

You can also get a Ruger in 454 Casull. wither gun you chose, I would go for the 454. You can get 45 long Colt ammo to shoot in it the way you use 38 spiels in a 357 magnum, so practice can be cheaper. I have had Freedom Arms and Ruger Super Redhawk in 454. Smith in 500. Did not keep the Smith. Kept the Ruger 454.

                            S&W 460XVR with a 14" barrel is my vote!
